Chapter One
Nick shoved his hands in his pockets, hating the feeling of eyes on him as he and his new friend, Jessie, walked away from the grocery store. As long as he didn’t react to the people staring, they’d eventually grow accustomed to seeing him around, he was sure of it. He just hated the awkward and uncomfortable feeling that came from them watching.
He and his mom had just moved to Geode City, a small town of only a couple thousand people in the middle of nowhere. School started soon, and thank goodness—summer had never felt so long in his entire life.
