Make New Year's goals. Dig within, and discover what you would like to have happen in your life this year. This helps you do your part. It is an affirmation that you're interested in fully living life in the year to come.—Melody Beattie

Happy New Year!!! It's the first day of the year and I am filled with hope, joy and Light!  A brand-new year to discover new adventures and experiences.  A brand-new year to be the best You ever!

I love the quote above because it is what I wish for you!  I wish the next 365 days be filled with living your life to the best of your ability.  Whether you make resolutions or not, setting goals for yourself to living the life you have always wanted is a good way to kick off the year.

What are your goals for the year? I wish you the very best and know you’re going to accomplish more than you ever thought possible.

Never lose hope. There is always hope.

    December 21, 2013 9:40 pm

This date will live in my memory for as long as I live.  This is when the worst Ice Storm in history arrived in my town.  The power/heat went out and for the next 48 hours, I was plunged in darkness.  As the hours wore on and our apartment got colder, the survival gene took over.

I dressed in layers and kept moving.  I ate peanut butter sandwiches and water.  I listened to the radio and took a cold shower.  I looked out the window at the darkness and devastation.  Trees fell and crashed on the cars below.

Night came and went.  No power.  No heat.

The cold seeped into my bones and so did despair.  My positive attitude was being smothered by negative thoughts and feelings.  Hope was fading and I started to lose it.  The darkness was overtaking me.

I closed my eyes and started to cry.  MR N held me while I cried and supported me.  As I cried, I felt a warmth fill my heart and a very soft voice whispered...

    Hold onto hope.

I opened my eyes and felt my soul clinging to the last little seed of hope.

Hope.  It is the one thing that will get you through anything, even in full survival mode.

Have you ever been in a similar situation?  Have you plunged into darkness and wondered if you will ever get through?

Cling to hope in the midst of darkness.  It will get you through anything. It got me through the darkest period of my life and it will help you!

    Never lose hope!

Learning to be refreshed in the context of intense labor is important spiritual work. – Rosaria Butterfield

We all work hard, pushing our bodies and our minds to the point of exhaustion.  Push our body/mind/spirit over the brink and a breakdown can occur.  The only true solution is to rejuvenate your soul.

After the 48 hours of no power/heat, it was Christmas.  We had our whole family over for Christmas Day.  We entertained and everyone had a lovely time.  Late mid-morning on Christmas Day, the temperature seemed to drop in our place.  We called the landlord and they said they were working on the heat problem.

We served our fabulous turkey dinner with all the fixings and everyone had a wonderful time.  After we said good-bye to our guests and the dishes were all done, we settled down on the loveseat for a few minutes.

We exhaled and started to get cold again.  I called the landlord again and this was the message on the machine...

We have exhausted all efforts to get the heating fixed.  The parts that are needed will not arrive until Friday, the 27th.

I hung up the phone and started to cry again.  It was too much.  The stress and strain of everything and now the heat is off AGAIN.  MR N stood up and said, Pack a bag.  We're going to a hotel.

We went online and found a hotel at a good deal.  We reserved a room and packed a bag.  We called a taxi and went to the hotel.

There was a slight mix-up as all the standard rooms were reserved.  The night manager took pity on us and gave us a jacuzzi suite for the same price.  We signed in and went to our room.

It was pure bliss and for the next 37 hours we did nothing but rejuvenate our souls.  We turned up the heat in the room, had many jacuzzi baths, ate 5 star food in the restaurant and slept.  It was exactly what we needed and it was an oasis.

Have you ever had something happen to you that you felt like we did?  Have you lost a job, loved one, a home?  Have you had someone end a relationship and you felt totally lost?  Life is filled with disasters and they come when you least expect it.

When life gives you lemons, you need to rejuvenate your body/mind/soul.  How?  That is up to you.

For us, it was 37 hours of bliss in a hotel.  We fed our bodies with heat and warm food.  We fed our minds with being away from it all and escaping to a retreat of sorts.  We didn't think about what was happening at our home.  We just focused on our hotel room.  We fed our souls by reconnecting with each other and the Light.  We let the jacuzzi wash away all of the stress and anxiety from our bodies.  We centered ourselves and allowed the lovely hotel to recover, refresh and rejuvenate us.

A healthy you is one that has a healthy body, mind and soul.  When you start to feel unwell, take notice and then do whatever you need to do to rejuvenate your soul.  A rejuvenated soul is one that is ready to shine and spread the Light!

Be weird. Be random. Be who you are. Because you never know who would love the person you hide. –Unknown

You are special.  You are unique.  There is no one in this world who is like you.  You have a specific number of DNA sequences and nothing can duplicate it.

Are you living your life as a certified original?  Or are you trying to blend in?

Be who you are by being authentic.  Look at the above quote and ask yourself if you are allowing your originality to shine.

    I sure am!

As a writer, author and blogger, there are so many people who tell me that I must do a whole list of things to be successful.  Do I?

    No!

Why?  Because I am staying true to my original self and being authentic.  I am me, MRS N.  I am doing things my way and following my heart.  I don't worry about my blogging numbers or the fact that no one has signed me yet.

Instead, I am being me and staying true to myself.  The followers will come and I will be signed.  I am enjoying the journey and learning a lot about myself.  I am growing and learning and you can do the same.

Look deep into yourself and find your authentic self.  Don't worry about what people think or how they may view you.  Instead, be true to yourself and be authentic.

    You are a certified original!!

Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

Anyone who reads this knows that I am a champion of Kindness!  You could call me Captain Kindness and I would wear a purple cape.  I would be a modern-day superhero and would spread kindness throughout the world.

I love this quote above because it clearly illustrates the impact of kindness.  You could be deaf or blind and you would hear/see kindness.

    What is kindness?

Kindness is the act of doing something to help or aid someone without wanting/needing any recognition or reward.  It can come in many forms and deeds.  It is a character trait that is talked about in every religious/spiritual belief.

Think back to a time when you were the recipient of kindness.  It can be something small like someone holding the door open for you.  It can be something big like giving you shelter when you needed it most.  Remember how that made you feel.

Now think of a time when you were kind to someone.  Imagine the person's reaction and then remember how great it made you feel.

It takes nothing to be kind but the end result will be life-changing!

Today and every day, look around and be kind to all those you meet.  Let us spread kindness around the world.  Together we will embrace the world in one giant kindness hug.  The world and the people in the world will be forever changed.

Let us all be Kindness Superheroes!!!

Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing. – Camille Pissarro

The world is filled with beautiful people and things.  I am not talking about what is splashed across the magazines or the television/movie screen.  I am talking about everyday people who you pass on the street.

A compassionate heart and a kind spirit is more beautiful to me than all the good looks in the world.  A person who goes out into the world and sees the beauty in everything around them is truly beautiful.

Do you see people physically or by their heart/spirit?

If you see the world through different eyes, you will truly be blessed!  Everyone is beautiful and a masterpiece, even you!  Look at the world around you today through the eyes of an artist and you will see how beautiful the world really is!

    January 7

It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. – Charles Spurgeon

    Are you filled with happiness?

I heard this question a week ago and my answer was a resounding YES!

Happiness is something that every person yearns for.  No matter who they are or where they live in the world, everyone wants to be happy.  It transcends all barriers.  It doesn't cost any money and yet is worth more money than the world banks hold.

I'll let you in on a little secret.  Your life can be filled with happiness.  All it takes is a little planning.

Happiness is one of the greatest life lessons there is.  When you are living your version of a happy life, you will be blessed and will be shining the Light within you!  Weave happiness throughout the tapestry of your life and be happy!

The tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body; use yours to lift someone up today.—Terri Ann Armstrong

One of the earliest memories I have is hearing my parents say to me, You can do it!  Those 4 words I have carried with me ever since and they have encouraged me.

Encouragement is one of the strongest acts we can show someone, second only to love.  When we use words to uplift someone, we are being selfless, kind and stronger than Superman.

When was the last time you encouraged someone?  When was the last time you received encouragement from another?

I try to be encouraging to others every day.  It is a part of who I am and I love helping people!  I don't do it to get recognized or for some ulterior motive.  I do it because it is part of my nature and because it helps spread the Light.

What do you do to encourage others?  Do you only encourage family and friends?  Do you encourage strangers or followers you know on social media?

I know that my life is blessed because of those people who encouraged me and by those who I encourage!  The greatest legacy for my life is for someone to say...

MRS N is/was a beautiful person because she encouraged others to greatness!

To be a champ, you have to believe in yourself when nobody else will. – Sugar Ray Robinson

    Do you believe in yourself?

    I believe in myself!

I found this quote this morning and I love it!  You have to believe in yourself because you are your #1 cheerleader!  If you believe in yourself, the world will believe in you too!

I believe that I am a writer and I have a story to tell.  I believe that my story is a bestseller and that it will help others.  I believe that I can spread the Light to the world and make a difference!

Forget what the world says.  Do not listen to their negativity.  Do not let the world stomp out your dreams.  Instead, believe in yourself and watch as your dreams come true!!!

Be the CHAMP that you are!  I believe in you!!!

The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate. – Oprah Winfrey

When a big moment happens in your life, do you celebrate it?

We do and let me tell you why.  Life is filled with big moments, both good and bad, and if you take notice and celebrate, you will feel gratitude.  Take notice of what I just said.  Celebrate both the good and bad.

A few years ago, I had a bad big moment when the huge Ice Storm hit.  I went from my normal life to just surviving to thanking God for getting me through.  I look back on that this morning and I thank God again for getting me through such a low time.

Celebrate all life's moments!!!  It is the key to living a happy life and you will be filled with such gratitude!

    January 11

God knows how long you have waited. Every second will be worth it in the end. Keep the faith.

I woke up this morning to a voice in my head whispering, You have been faithful, dear daughter, and now you will be rewarded.

I smiled and whispered back, Thank you.

Are you a faithful person?  Do you keep the faith, even when facing an obstacle?

I must admit that there have been times in my life when I have not waited.  I rushed ahead and tried to make things happen.  I laugh at the hijinx I caused to myself and those around me.  I caused heartache and pain.  It was only when I steered myself back onto the right path and kept the faith did I understand what was in store for me.

Keeping the faith is all about trusting God (in whatever form you see Him) and believing in the Light.  Keep your eyes looking forward and hold tight to your dreams.  Keeping the faith is not about a particular belief; it's about your heart and your life.

What area of your life are you struggling with?  Keep the faith!  Believe in yourself and the Light.  Keep the faith and you will be rewarded!

Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. – Matthew 7:12

Do you follow the Golden Rule?

I follow this rule in all areas of my life and it is the foundation of who I am.  It is something I learned when I was a little girl and it can be so easy to remember.

When someone treats me with disrespect, anger or jealousy, I don't fire back with derision.  I instead treat them with respect, kindness and admiration.  Does this change who I am?  No.  Does this change who they are?  I hope so.

Think for a moment what would happen if you combated negativity with positivity.  For every angry outburst, you react with love.  For every act of bullying, you strike back with kindness.  For every time someone acted jealous, you compliment them.  The world would be changed and people's hearts would be filled with the Light.

Live the Golden Rule and watch with wonder as your heart, and the hearts of everyone you encounter, are changed forever!

    January 13

Your mind knows only some things. Your inner voice, your instinct, knows everything. If you listen to what you know instinctively, it will always lead you down the right path. – Henry Winkler

Ask anyone successful in their career what is the key to their success and they will probably say, Trusting your gut/instincts.

    Do you agree?

    I sure do!

My instincts have always led me down the right path.  I have not always listened to them and have veered off that particular path.  It is only when I am listening carefully and follow my instincts, do I find success.

Is your gut telling you something?  Are your instincts trying to speak to you?

Listen carefully and then follow what they say.  You will find success in all areas of your life!

    January 14

If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today? – Steve Jobs

I love this quote by Steve Jobs because it clarifies my focus for today!  Is what I am doing today meaningful?  What if today was my last day on this earth?  Would what I am doing today matter?

What about you?  If today was the last day of your life, would you be wanting to do what you have scheduled today?

My answer, without hesitation, is YES!  Every day I wake up and thank God for another opportunity to spread the Light.  I thank God for the air I breathe, the roof over my head, the unconditional love of my beloved MR N and the world that I live in.  I thank God for all my friends and family worldwide and the ability to connect using social media and this wonderful blog.

This quote focuses my perspective for today.  I am going to cherish everything I do and every person I encounter.  I am going to make every second count.  Tomorrow I may not be here and I want to be known as the person who made a difference!

Are you going to have the same focus as me?  Are you going to make every second count?

Together, we can live an extraordinary life and make every second count!

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Are you feeling overwhelmed?  Do you have a work or school project deadline looming?  Do you feel the stress and anxiety building inside your heart?

STOP!  Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.  In.  Out.  In.  Out.  Open your eyes and smile.  Go ahead, I'll wait here.

Now, do you feel a little better?

Feeling overwhelmed is a natural occurrence and trust me, I have been there.  I received the first notes from my editor.  My first reaction was to feel overwhelmed.  A thousand thoughts of doubt filled my head and I literally had to take a nice long walk to clear my head.

When I came home, I realized that this is only the first step in a long line of steps to making my dream come true.  I poured over the notes again and again until I had memorized
