The Switch!
A note to you, the worker:
If you’ve ever walked into a dark building at night, you might have found it confusing, and—admit it—maybe even a little scary. Now think of your life at work, spiritually, as that same dark building. Many of us are moving through our work weeks in much the same way: unsure of where we’re heading, often anxious about our circumstances, feeling alone, and rightfully concerned that we may be hurt by something up ahead that we can’t see.
How did this happen? Well, our research shows that most of us have switched things off that were meant to be kept on, and we’ve forced things on that were better left off—breaking God’s intended design for our work on Monday.
This is the reality of Monday Morning Atheism: the way many of us approach work as if God doesn’t exist—essentially switching God off. And for many years it was my approach as well, all because of three little lies that affected my thoughts and behavior. Based on over 5,000 surveys collected during our years of research (see Appendix A), it seems that you and I are not alone. Even those of us that love our jobs are affected.
This book was written to help ordinary people like us experience God as we work. Imagine your workday with peace, power, and purpose. In other words, working God’s way, not our way. I am confident that together we can find brighter work days ahead.
Let’s get started while there’s still plenty of light!
