    As she watched a pharaoh’s solar boat emerge from two thousand years of sand, something - a sound, a movement, made Trevy Evans look to her left. For an eternity of seconds, her mind was wiped clean of thought as a man fell slowly from the web of scaffolding around a nearby monument. As the man plunged downward in a graceful spiral towards the steel barricade below, her first impression was this was some ridiculous stunt for one of Cairo’s endless action movies. In the next millisecond, Trevy screamed as the steel poles supporting the fence below broke the man's fall. She shouted to the workers below, but the desert wind snatched the words out of her mouth like grains of sand. Death in the desert is swift if merciful and agonizingly slow if not. Swift or slow, like the sand, it is anonymous.

    Trisha O’Keefe calls herself a gypsy scholar, having lived and traveled at home and abroad for most of her life. “Until my mother asked me how I was actually going to make a living. Leave it to mothers to do reality checks.” Since coming back to the States, she has authored six books. The first, The Bard Rocks, was for young adults. The second, Hanahatchee, was nominated for Georgia’s Author of the Year Award. Poseidon’s Eye and Lovesong of the Chinaberry Man are due out in 2015. The Magi’s Well is slated for 2016 as is The People of the Mama Tree. A seventh novel is in the pipeline, she says. Meanwhile, Ms. O’Keefe keeps her day job teaching high school, and fulfilling speaking engagements. “I miss traveling around the world, but it’s less of a hassle to let my characters do it. And cheaper!”
