From a Christian Perspective - LaSandra Collins

    Introduction

    From the Author

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19 KJV)

Some people realize their purpose in life during their youth while others have to do some soul searching. For years I have been encouraging and inspiring others but never really viewed it as my purpose in life. This devotional book was birthed during a time when my faith was being tested and I was a spiritual and emotional wreck. To help me through the difficult days, I would write my thoughts on paper and find a Scripture to stand upon. I shared some of my writings with friends to encourage them as well. Then it hit me: If my writings were helping my friends, they could also minister to others. Throughout my storm, I never stopped writing. Although this book began as a tool to help me spiritually, it grew into a set of broader guiding principles for daily living.

I received inspiration from everyone. The old saying still rings true: You are not the only one going through something. Everyone has demons to face, crosses to bear, and trials to overcome! I am just a willing vessel God uses to encourage and inspire others. Thank You, God, for funneling Your message through me! I also would like to thank everyone who has shared a story with me and allowed me to use it to minister to others. I love each and every one of you. Keep your hand in God’s hand. I hope you enjoy these words of encouragement and are moved to embrace your Christian walk! Remember, you are a work in progress— ‘Cause God don’t make no junk. Be blest!

Day One Devotional - Take Inventory

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

    (Philippians 4:11 KJV)

I once had someone tell me that she was envious of me because I had a husband, good job, and a nicely furnished home. My response to her was, Don’t envy what I have, because you do not know what I am going through to keep it. You see, at the time, I was very unhappy in my marriage, detested my job, and was willing to give up my home and all of its nice furnishings just for peace of mind.

It is not uncommon for someone to take inventory of their life and reflect on the things he or she does not have or didn’t accomplish. Have you ever compared your life to your neighbor’s, a friend’s, and/or a family member’s life that you perceived to be perfect? Though things may appear to be picture-perfect for some individuals, you shouldn’t envy or wish you were in their shoes; looks can be deceiving. You don’t know how or what that person did to achieve his or her success or what sacrifices were required to get where he or she is today.

The Scripture passage above is important. We have the power through Christ to change our situations and circumstances if we just trust and believe in Him. Contentment will no longer elude us if we learn to embrace the reality of our glorious salvation. Since God rains on the just as well as the unjust (Matthew 5:45), you must remember that no one has a perfect life, no matter how outwardly perfect it may appear. But as believers, we have God’s promise that He will never leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). No matter what hardships or disappointments you face, you should not measure your success by where you are in this life, because your rewards are stored in heaven. That’s not to say that God does not want you to have a prosperous life, because He does; it just means that your primary
