This is a very interesting and readable book. I had never before read a book about the War of Independence and the Civil War in County Mayo. It follows a similar pattern to other individual works of Connacht counties such as Farry’s “Aftermath of Revolution” and O Gadhra’s “Civil War in Connacht” in this area. The reader is provided with portraits of the main protagonists both political and military in the county during the time from both the Irish and British sides and then the protagonists of the Civil War are analysed also. The book is very well referenced and written throughout and provides the reader with an interesting reading list for future reading in the area.
