    About the author

Now, I’m not going to babble on about what you probably don’t want to hear so I’ll get straight to the point. Just before my GCSE years, I didn’t know how to revise, or what I actually needed to do. I would just sit at my desk in my room for hours staring into space and occasionally at the textbook. This resulted in very ineffective revision on my behalf which in turn led to below than average grades. In my year 10 report my predictions for my GCSE’s ranged from C-E.

After a thorough readjustment period in the summer of 2014, which consisted of actually learning how to revise through asking out and reaching for help, I picked up invaluable tips and strategies which aided my revision.

After consistent hard work and dedication during year 11, I came out with GCSE’s of A’s and B’s. I was very pleased with how far I had come. Just a year prior to my GCSE’s, I didn’t even think I would make it into my schools sixth form. However as satisfied as I was I always knew there was room for improvement.

During my AS Level year, I applied the same techniques I learnt about revision and finished with 2 A’s one B and one C. Once again, I was ecstatic with my results but I now knew getting, good grades were a matter of constant repetition and revision, more than anything else. So, I applied myself in year 13 and came out with 2 A stars in Economics and Business, and one B in Psychology. I felt I had done it and succeeded in many ways. My constant progression of grades, through my years of GCSE to A Level, boosted my confidence in knowing getting high grades is a result of effective and purposeful revision. In my opinion, it has little to do with being smart, it’s a matter of being able to apply yourself as well as having a strong mentality at all times.

Those very same effective revision tips I’ve picked up along my journey that have supported me tremendously, in getting high grades will be shared with you throughout this book. All I need of you is to pay full attention, when reading these tips. Thank you.

    Introduction

    ‘You have to revise.’

‘Your teachers have told me you need to revise more.’

    ‘Revise and start early.’

‘When are you going to start revising?’

These are just some of the statements, that I’m sure you constantly hear from your parents or teachers about revision. But for most students, the simple reality is they don’t know how to revise. So, whilst being constantly told to, they don’t necessarily respond in the right way because they don’t know what they’re being told to do. In this book I’m going to walk you through the tips and techniques of revising effectively, what revision actually consists of and not the misconception that most people define revision as.
