What is ‘luck’?
Fortuity happens when preparation meets opportunity
.
François Voltaire
We know ‘luck’ as the outcome of an action. In other words, it is the consequence of something, of a deed performed by ourselves. Like every actions, before execution, are preceded by the intention of completion. At the same time, said intention is the result of the way of thinking or a mental scheme.
We can summarize luck as the conclusion of our way of thinking, our way to see the world, the reality or whatever surround us, in addition to the way we see ourselves, the image we have of our inner self, and that of our own capabilities and personal options.
Surely you must have observed, more than once, how people with a glad and positive aspect, along with those whose character is calmed enjoy and savor life, are usually favored by good luck. Well then, that is not a casuality, for sure you have also witnessed how people with negative attitude, tending to depression, those who are usually moody and show pessimistic behavior, do not benefit from such good luck, on the contrary they seem to be chased by bad fortune.
These two examples demonstrate the importance of disposition to create a reality around you, is not fortuitous that ones and others have good or bad luck, is not related to destiny, providence nor spells or amulets of any kind. In every case it is people who choose their destiny and look for their luck.
In fact, Arthur Shopenhauer used to say luck shuffles the cards but we are the ones who play them
. Possibly, right now you find yourself in times of bad luck, yet if you persevere the chances are high for your destiny to improve and you turn into a winner in the next game. This occurs because there are elements exerting great influence -I mean attitude, expertise, wisdom and patience-, they can all play a powerful role when it comes to deciding your future.
The concept of being a lucky person does not mean for you win the lotto, or wear a talisman, in order to become fortunate, you must focus in other more important and decisive things. A four leaf clover won’t increase our luck, we must reach our goals and objectives to achieve prosperity. We can recap this concept with a phrase by philosopher Francis Bacon: Chiefly the mould of a man’s fortune is in his own hands
. To have luck, to be lucky, does not imply our problems will solve themselves out, thus we must not act blindly, we can’t shut our eyes closed and think of luck like magic to overcome hardship.
In spite of thinking
