About this ebook

Have you ever grown up in a household where one parent had a substance abuse issue? I have, a believe most households grew up in similar situations. One of my parent's had an addiction to alcohol, and during those years in my life,  grew to have hate towards that parent. I remember arriving home from school daily while during my high school years and would see two six packs of beer stacked up on the floor in the kitchen next to the chair the parent were sitting on, and I would go into my room and just cry. I had no knowledge of addiction nor how serious the addiction was for the parent. I had hate in my heart for this parent and felt ashamed to have them as a parent. As I grew into adulthood, I too became the very thing I hated in that parent and could relate to how difficult the addiction had to be during those years growing up.  I found myself on a path of destruction for many years and did not like myself very much at all. I had to learn the hard way in certain situations. All the experiences I endured have made me the person I am today.

All of my books except the poetry books, share personal stories of experiences in my life and some were painful to write as memories came back of the particular situations. My Name Is Susan, I'm An Addict. - Susan Murray

My name is Susan, and I am an addict. Those famous words we all have heard and are familiar with while attending NA, AA meetings while in recovery from chemical substances and alcohol. I will begin by stating I grew up in a family of five, our economic status was poor, and life had its ups and down as most families do, but our family had more bad moments than good. As I reflect on my parent’s one had a substance abuse addiction, my father

May he rest in peace, and be out of misery. My mother had a mental illness, may she rest in peace, and be without misery. My father’s addiction issue didn’t bother me until I was in the fifth grade. I did not like how my father would drink two six packs a day, or every other day, and at times I cried over it.

    ––––––––

My father was the sole provider in the household and when he drank that meant he did not go to work that day. I would arrive home from school on certain days and see him sitting in the kitchen drinking and the amount he was drinking upset me, a great deal. I remember asking him one day, if he went to work that day, and he replied no. I needed items for school, and I was upset I could not have the items due to my father not having the money to purchase them.

    ––––––––

I was angry and hated my parent’s my family being poor and could not wait until I reached the age to work, so I could by all I needed and was neglected from having as a child. I experimented with alcohol during my teenage years, and
