    Chapter One

What Are The Three Basic Elements Of The Food We Eat Daily?

In order to understand basic nutrition and how this affects our health, we must delve into the three basic nutrition elements by learning the concepts of all the foods we eat and how each one adds or takes away from our health and our endeavors to lose extra weight. If we are ill, and have any disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, RA, or any health condition that is holding us back from being the best that we can be, these basic elements and nutritious foods become a life-line to hold us up while we recover from any type of illness. On the other hand, if we are basically in good health, the knowledge of good nutrition is going to be the cornerstone of our excellent good health continuing our whole life through.

In modern health care there are now new frontiers being developed and confronted by the new life styles our nation has developed over the years. Therefore the study of nutrition is a MUST that we must embrace so that we can heal. We must learn how to deal with all the fast food and processed food that our food markets are offering to us today, and you can do that by reading labels and nutrition fact offered by the seller of the product. This may take only a small amount of time on your part, but is a big part of health and well being overall/

Weight Control is an overall important part of the study of nutrition. As we learn what our body needs in the form of nutrition daily, we can then adapt this knowledge into our weight loss plans. CHANGES in our eating habits must follow, therefore, if we want to attain to the highest degree of health and happiness that we possibly embrace.

You are probably eating a fair amount of the three elements that are needed for our bodies to work properly, however, it is our first choice of foods that puts us at risk for the disease of obesity. The three basic food elements that we consume daily, and that we need to sustain life are as follow:

    Proteins

    Carbohydrates

    Fats

We are going to discuss all these basic food elements in the next chapters. We are going to find out just what are the very best sources for all these basic food elements; we are going to discover if our foods are safe to consume; and we will find out exactly what foods to choose as first choices so that we can obtain the highest degree of nutrition, and how to apply all these health giving foods into our diet for our health and weight loss if needed. You are going to be pleasantly surprised at how little effort on your part will be needed to make these easy food changes and choices in your life.

Are you ready to Rock and Roll??? Oh Yea! Baby!!

    Chapter Two

What Is Protein And How Much Do We Need Daily?

What is Protein? The answer is a simple We Are! Everything about us is made up of protein; our hair, our nails, our skin, our blood, along with believe it or not, our enzymes and hormones. Wow! Do you now realize just how important eating a good source of protein is to our bodies?

Our bodies embrace thousands of proteins that are constantly being broken down into Amino Acids. As we cannot store protein, our body is in constant need of a good supply of the high quality protein foods all day long. There are several kinds of protein including complete and incomplete. Complete Proteins contain all the amino acids that we need daily. Incomplete Proteins lack one or more of the amino acids that we need.

A special delicious group of incomplete proteins that become complete protein are called complimentary proteins and they make up the basis of many diets including a vegetarian diet. Some examples of complimentary proteins are:

    Cooked Beans Consumed With Rice

    Peanut Butter Sandwich

Lentils (Split Pea Soup) Eaten With Cornbread

How Much Protein Do We Need Daily?

As a general rule an adult need 0.8 grams of protein daily for every 2.2 pounds they weigh. So divide your weight by 2.2 and multiply this result by 0.8 to get the complete total of protein you need daily.

The Best Food Sources For The Complete Proteins

    Eggs And Especially Egg Whites

    Meats

    Fish

    Poultry

    Milk

    Dairy Products Of All Kinds

The Best Food Sources For The Incomplete Proteins

    Beans

    Peas

    Soybeans

    Peanuts

    Legumes Of All Kinds

    Unrefined Grains

    Potatoes

If you are a vegetarian be sure to mix your incomplete proteins with a corn product so that you will have complete proteins daily.

Note: Eggs Whites Are An Exceptionally Good Source For A Complete Protein.

How Much Protein Should You Have Recommended Daily Chart

    Men

Ages 19-24 160 Pounds On A 2,900 Calorie Diet 58 Grams Protein Daily

Ages 25-50 174 Pounds On A 2,900 Calorie Diet 63 Grams Protein Daily

Ages 51+ 170 Pounds On A 2,300 Calorie Diet 63 Grams Protein Daily

    Women

Ages 19-24 128 Pounds On A 2,200 Calorie Diet 46 Grams Protein Daily

Ages 25-50 138 Pounds On A 2,200 Calorie Diet 50 Grams Protein Daily

Ages 50+ 143 Pounds On A 1,900 Calorie Diet 50 Grams Protein Daily

This protein chart is for average; please use the rule in the above formula to get the perfect amount of protein you need daily.

Now your assignment is to figure out just how much protein you are getting daily right now, and how you can add more if needed.

The CarbLow Diet promotes good quality proteins as the basis for the eating program, so you will be eating lots of body-building delicious proteins on The CarbLow Diet.

    Chapter Three

What Are Carbohydrates And What Role Do They Play In Your Health?

What are carbohydrates and what role do they play in your health? Think ENERGY!

Our body needs lots of energy to fulfill all of our daily chores and tasks. The carbohydrates we eat can be viewed much like the fuel in your automobile. The excellent sources of good carbohydrates that we find in our plant foods are these good sources for our sugars and starches. As our plants transform their energy from the sun using water and carbon dioxide, their green leaves contain chlorophyll to manufacture the energy that we need daily. The actual name carbohydrate gets it’s name from the chemical structural elements such as carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. So as we see the sun shinning down on our edible plants, think of the plants life going through an energy process that we can easily consume for energy in the form of a carbohydrate. Yum! Oh Yea! Baby!

Our simplest form of carbohydrate is simple sugars in the form of glucose, fructose, and galatose. These are called monosaccharides.

Only a small amount of carbohydrates are stored in the liver and muscles in the form of glucagon. Our blood sugar also carries a small amount. Therefore, we need a constant supply regularly to meet our energy needs and spare our important protein from being used as energy. Our heart and brain are in constant need of and depend on a good supply of carbohydrate in the form of glucose so that they can perform to the highest point of their ability.

The breakdown of the carbohydrates that we consume is really amazing. As we take them in our mouth they travel to our stomach and then onto our small intestines where they are broken down by enzymes into simple sugars that we need for our bodies to function. By the time they reach the small intestines, they can be readily absorbed.

The key hormone to control our blood sugar is called insulin. This hormone is produced in the pancreas (Islets of Langerhans). This special hormone controls the amount of sugar in our blood at all times. When we don’t have enough of this hormone, we can develop diabetes.

I highly encourage you to download a copy of the above book as a companion book for your exciting CarbLow Diet Plan.

As you browse the pages of this book, you will find that you are reading a CarbLow Diet Book, not a No Carb diet book. It is very important for your health to include delicious nutrition carbs in your diet every day. In the next chapter on ketosis you will see just why these carbs are so important for your health and well being. Oh Yea! Baby!!

    Chapter Four

What Is Ketosis And Is It Healthy For You

What is ketosis? Ketosis is a buildup of ketone elements in your blood and most likely is caused from eating a diet, such as a high protein diet, that causes the body to oxidize excessive amounts of its own fat. Ketosis can also make itself evident in cases of uncontrolled diabetes. If your body goes into ketosis you can end up with ketoacdosis. This condition, when diabetes if present, can lead to coma. The symptoms are as follows:

What Are The Symptoms Of Ketosis?

    Nausea

    Vomiting

    Difficulty Breathing

    Mental Confusion

    Fruity Breath

If you eat a diet that is too low in carbs your health will be seriously affected, as it will go into ketosis. Never go on any diet that will result in ketosis. How do you keep your body from developing ketoacdosis? Very simply, by eating a good supply of all the three food elements in your body at all times. Good diet planning will result in good health.

In this book, you are going to learn exactly how to plan this fantastic exciting CarbLow Diet so that you can have the nutrition your body needs at all times, and in turn, lose the weight you need to lose.

    Chapter Five

    Fats In The CarbLow Diet

The Skinny On Good Fats Versus Bad Fats

In this chapter you are going to be pleasantly surprised to discover that eating fat in your weight loss diet is allowed and promoted highly. Did you think you had to give up delicious fats, including the tasty butter and mayonnaise that you love, during your weight loss diet? Well the simple fact is "You won’t be giving up these fats to lose weight, but you might be changing certain fats that you are used to eating for the better healthier fats that will not only produce a great wealth of benefits to your body, but that are also delicious and nutritious!

Did you know that fat is just as important to your health as both the proteins and carbohydrates that we eat everyday? Yes it is! Oh Yea! Baby!!

How Do We Promote Good Health And Long Life By Consuming Fats?

In order to promote good health and long life, we must consume a certain amount of fat daily. Fat gives us the important nutrients we need in order to:

    Regulate Our Cholesterol Metabolism

Transport The Valuable Fat Soluble Vitamins For Absorption such as:

    Vitamin A

    Vitamin D

    Vitamin E

    Vitamin K

The transport of these wonderful life giving vitamins are necessary for the synthesis of hormone like chemicals that are so important and necessary for the beautiful, soft skin, and energy.

Fat is the most powerful and easiest source of quick energy, as it gives us 9 calories per gram and is circulating in our blood stream constantly. Most of our fat is stored in the adipose tissue of our beautiful and handsome bodies, ready to be used in many ways such as:

Fat Cushions And Protects Our Vital Organs

Fat Insulates Our Wonderful Bodies From The Cold

Fat Is Burned As A Fuel To Give Us a Steady Source Of Energy All The Time If Needed

There are three important fats that we will study for this CarbLow Diet as follows:

    Polyunsaturated (PUFA)

There are two polyunsaturated fatty acids that our body needs daily: Linoleic Acid and Lenolenic Acid. These are called Essential Fatty Acids or (EFAs). The EFAs fatty acids are very important for your overall health especially in reducing or preventing high blood pressure, hardening of your arteries, and many kinds of heart disease. Make sure you get several servings a day of the EFA fats. You will find them in the following foods:

    Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

    Sunflower Seeds

    Walnuts

    Leafy Green Vegetables

    Corn Oil

    Canola Oil

    Cottonseed Oil

    Safflower Oil

    Soybean Oil

    Walnuts Oil

Note: Olive oil is not a good source for the EPA fatty acids.

    Monounsaturated (MUFA)

Monounsaturated fats contain Oleic Acid and Palmitoleic

Acid. The best sources for these fats are:

    Canola Oil

    Olive Oil

    Saturated (SFA)

Saturated fats contain two fatty acids: Palmitic Acid And Stearic Acid. They can be found in the following foods:

    Red Meat

    Butter

    Cream

    Eggs

    Cheese

    Dairy Products

    Chocolate

    Coconut

    Palm Oil

Ready to Eat Foods (Check Labels)

All fats contain three fatty-acids plus one glycerol molecule: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. The doctors call these tryglycerides. The chemical makeup of fats decide whether they are PUFA, MUFA, or SFA. Actually the more hydrogen a fat contains, the more saturated it is.

Have I answered the question, good fats versus bad fats? If not, let me sum it all up for you. All fats are good for you! Choose the EPAs for your first choice of fats but include the other fats for complete nutrition for life. All food in its natural state is good for you, so try to eat food as fresh as you can get it, and buy organic when you can. Try to bake your very own bakery goods, and stay away from processed foods as much as possible. It is not what you eat once in a while that destroys your health but rather what you make a habit of eating daily or several times a day. Setting up your complete CarbLow Diet Plan will be discussed in Chapter 11.

Note: If you have been trying to get better health by using only olive oil, and then make sure to change your diet and have some of the EPAs listed above daily. Try to buy cold-pressed oils if you can find them and eat fish at least 3 times a week. Avoid products that list hydrogenated oils in their labels.

How Do Fats Help Us To Lose Weight?

Our health will not thrive if fats are withheld for any period of time. These fats are an essential part of any diet, and especially a "weight loss’ diet. You may wonder why you have not lost weight while on your strict weight loss diet, but add some of the EFAs (essential fatty acids), meat, cheese, dairy products, poultry, and etc. above, and you are going to be amazed at the sudden drop of pounds you will experience.

If you want to lose weight, you must eat a variety of good delicious foods including the fats given above, as these are our life giving nutritious foods. You will find them all in this book right here right now for your pleasure. Eating is fun, good for you, and simply the best way to lose weight.

How many fats do you need daily? You will find out exactly how to include the wonderful world of
