Wrestling Thugs of Killimore High School
Round 1: The Announcement
My name is Sir Apostle Watson. How I became a knighted American living in London is another story. This is a memoir of a well-remembered day of both my best times and my worst times. These were the days of wrestling for Killimore High School, home of the Meat Grinders.
Hello Meat Grinder students and staff. All week we will be playing alumni Sir Mix-A-Knot’s raps between classes as we celebrate his dedication to rope tying. This Friday please join us in room seven-eleven, as we have a good time, with beloved student, Drakey Ape for going 100 days of parole without failing a drug test. Also today, there will be a last minute wrestle off for the 177 weight class between Sherlock Ies and
Doc Watson.
Yes, in those days I was referred to as Doc.
Since the 7th grade through high school, I was granted this title by my peers, which later stuck with the teachers as well. The assignment was to state your name and where you want to be in 20 years. It was a normal first day assignment. I simply stated my dream of getting a doctorate in Bowling Industry Management and Technology
from Vincennes University. I had to drop this dream when I found out the degree was only as an A.S., yet the name still stuck.
What is even more important to this memoir is not the name. It was the fact that as soon as the announcements were finished I felt two eyes burning in my back. So I turned around and saw Sherlock’s eyes blazing fire in my direction. By golly did he look pissed-off. The face of Sherlock read, By the power of Green Skull, how dare you challenge me. Don’t you know that I was a state champ last year. Go back to your 196 weight class where you belong.
I told Coach O’Nutti that I lost weight naturally with the intense practices and wanted to wrestle off for the lower weight class. I didn’t think the crazy old coach was going to post it so the whole school would know. Oh, well. That is how coach did things and Sherlock was going to have to find out about it by practice anyway.
Round 2: Lunch Outside
When the truck hit the deer, an antler flew off it’s head and wedged into a tree a foot from my head. So here was this old couple getting out of their truck, looking both at me and the bumper where it connected. ‘Shouldn’t we contact the authorities.’ they said. ‘No, no.’ I replied, ‘It’s not like they can bring it back to life.’ Once they left, I didn’t have a knife on me and all I could find was a beer bottle. That was the time I skinned a buck with nothing but a broken beer bottle and hulled it home for dinner
. Bucky Hicks stated proudly. "It’s also why I now
