About this ebook

The Toxic: Don’t let your In-Laws ruin your marriage is a guide created to inspire you and not to perspire you! I am of the opinion that if you are informed, you cannot be deformed. With this in mind, the first thing you should know is this; not all Toxic in-laws are aware that they are Toxic. As funny as this sounds, it is true. This is why I want to enlighten people about this sensitive subject matter.

As such, living with toxic in-laws can put a considerable amount of undue stress on you and your spouse. But, what should you do about it?

That’s the question this guide will work to answer. By walking you through the warning signs and things you might experience if you have toxic in-laws, you can recognize potential problems before they have the chance to boil over into something more substantial, and perhaps unrepairable.

While it does not (and should not) necessarily fall on you alone to fix whatever disagreement has arisen in the family from your relationship with your significant another, you do need to play an active role in addressing it and working to move past it. And so, does your spouse.

    The Toxic - Miriam Davids

    Introduction

It’s a well-recognized trend in society. Movies, TV shows, and countless novels have poked fun at home in-laws always seem to somehow disapprove of their child's choice in a spouse. All parents desire what's most suitable for their children, but if the opinions of your in-laws are becoming overwhelming, stressful, or downright toxic, it’s time you took a stand.

Whether it's one or both sets of in-laws that are causing trouble in your marriage, it's not something you should have to put up with if you can avoid it. In fact, living with toxic in-laws can put a considerable amount of undue stress on you and your spouse.

If you treat this as a joint effort in which you stick together and support one another, you can approach the toxic parties directly and figure out what has gone wrong. Above all, remember that your spouse is the person you have vowed to love through everything—even a disgruntled parent is now against that.

    Let’s begin!

    The Warning Signs

Sometimes, the fact that the other's family dislikes one person in a relationship is made pretty obvious. Other times, the dislike doesn't begin appearing until later on, like after you have tied the knot.

But, no matter when these signs start appearing, the sooner you notice them, the better it will be for your relationship’s health in the long run.

    They Give Backhanded Compliments

One of the sneakiest and most dangerous ways to insult someone is to give them a backhanded compliment, something that sounds nice...until you give
