Patrick Baldwin
Patrick J. Baldwin was born on July 30, 1965 in Vallejo, California. He is the youngest of three children. He spent his early childhood in Connecticut; the state he calls home. He graduated from high school in 1984 from Northbrook High School in Houston. He held numerous jobs after high school until sixteen years later he found his calling. He became an LVN in 1997 and has been working as a LVN/Surgical Technologist in one of the South’s largest hospital systems ever since. Patrick plays the piano, is always trying to whittle down the stack of books by his bed, loves to cook, enjoys composing music on his computer, and has learned over the years that writing is not only enjoyable, but therapeutic. He loves to write about real-life events mixed with fiction and some of his own dreams and fantasies. He got his joy of reading and writing from his mother, Joyce, who passed away in 2010 from a failed liver transplant. He misses her terribly and dedicates all of his writing to her. For comments, rants, and raves, Patrick can be contacted at pjbaldwin1965@att.net

Real Men Don’t Make Promises
Understanding Oaths, Pacts Covenants and Promises from a Biblical Perspective
By: Patrick Baldwin
Real Men Forward
This book was written to help bring awareness to the man of God seeking to honor God. This book helps to highlight what the Word of God says regarding promises, oaths etc. It is an attempt to push back on today’s Contemporary Christian Culture who promote movies like Courageous
, or believe things like the Promise Keepers
is a Biblical Concept.
I will pose this question . . . When have Christians decided not to think for themselves and learn directly from God? Are we Catholic? Do we follow a Pope? Does the Contemporary Christian Church have multiple Popes?
THINK ABOUT IT
THINK FOR YOURSELF
Don’t just push it to the side – actually take the time to think, question, and take deceive action when necessary.
Could it be those so-called trusted leaders in your church have been lying to you and are actually part of a government program to manipulate and control you. That would never happen in any country right, especially here in the United States of America.
Well I hate to be the one to bring you the bad news
but that could actually be the case. All you have to do is a quick search on Clergy Response Teams to see that such a situation already exists and was in place even back during Hurricane Katrina.
Speed up to today and follow the money to see just where we have come from then. Remember Christ warns us we will be hated in all the world for His name sake – it will happen, it is written.
Now that we have that ground work laid, let’s start to examine what God’s Word says . . . .
Chapter 1: Love is in the Air
But above all things , my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. (James 5:12)
A long time ago ‘Love is in the air,’ was a popular song that stormed the charts. A happy little tune that tried to convince us that love was all around and we would just have to open our eyes and look for it in order to find it.
Although it is certainly true that God, the very Spirit of love, is all around us and that He wants to be found, the theology of the above song is somewhat debatable.
But the song did make me think of something else that seems to be all around us in the air.
What’s that?
It’s simple. We are talking about promises.
Promises are all around us.
Everybody makes them and they are handed out to us like sandwiches in the local snack bar. Kings make them and especially politicians seem to be good at making them. Parents, husbands, wives and children make them. In short, everybody is involved.
Even God makes promises.
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:4)
Immediately, we come to the heart of the matter. God is keeping His promises, but we are not. You may think you are, you may be doing your very best to keep your promises and yet, you fail.
The Bible couldn’t be clearer about the nature of fallen men.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)
God forbid: ya, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written. (Romans 3:14)
That’s not very good news. The Apostle Paul wrestled with it too when he wrote:
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Thankfully, the Gospel means Good News and Paul knew that too for in the very next verse he says:
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. (Romans 7:25)
And:
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)
The bottom line is that God is God and we are not. God does not break His Word, but we, as frail human beings, are not capable of claiming we will never break our word.
And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof. (Joshua 23:14)
Who could make such a claim, besides God?
The world, in its sinful state, doesn’t really care. A promise is easily made, but just as easily broken. It’s not even considered too bad if one breaks his promises, as long as the goal gets accomplished. The business world is full of broken promises and lies and is often just considered good common sense.
But for the Child of God, these things ought not to be so.
He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. (Thomas Jefferson)
Chapter 2: My Words
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. (Matthew 24:35)
What actually is a promise? I suppose we all are well acquainted with the meaning of promises, but let’s take a look at what the dictionary has to say about it.
A Promise
A statement telling someone that you will definitely do something or that something will definitely happen in the future
An indication of future success or improvement
A reason to expect that something will happen in the future (Webster)
God has promised us the forgiveness of sins if we accept His sacrifice and are willing to yield to Him. He has promised us His care on the earth and everlasting life. He has also promised that those who reject Him will not see life in the world to come, but will be held in chains of darkness.
Those are quite some promises and because they are made by the One who cannot lie, we can rest assured that God will keep those promises. But our promises are not quite like it.
They are fickle and even though we may not want to break them, it happens all the time. Consider the following scenario, which sadly is all too common in today’s hardened society:
I told you. I no longer care for you. Do I have to spell it out for you?
Bill shifted in his chair and clenched his jaw as a dark shadow crossed his face. Judy looked at me with a tear-stained face. Her eyes were pleading with me to do something. To step in and talk some sense into Bill, but Bill’s mind was made up. He didn’t want to be confused with the facts. After ten years of
