Erich’s father summoned him to his chambers in the middle of the night. Among the company of the royal guards, the prince made his way down the cold halls of Dunlop Castle. He pushed open the door to his father’s room and stepped in, the guards flanking him.
The room was illuminated by the dimmest candlelight. The bed in the center of the room was disheveled. A figure stirred in a chair at the corner of the room.
Leave us,
King Lionel said softly.
The guards vacated the chambers, leaving Erich standing alone before his father.

Brigands.

These swine attack by night. If you wait until morning they will be long gone and the city ravaged. You must meet them now while they do not expect it. Now go.
Prince Erich nodded his head, stood and left the room. He entered the halls where the guards escorted him back to his chambers.
Inside his room he noticed the candles were all lit. He looked to his right to see his squire sitting in the chair at his desk.
Is there trouble, sire?
"Luke, call me Erich. I do
