    Chapter 1

    The beeping of Craig’s alarm clock woke him out of his slumber, his hand clicking the button to silence the device. He sniffled, sitting up in bed and rubbing his eyes. He stood, walking stiffly out of his room and out into the main room of his apartment.

    Quite frankly, his shared place with Nathan, an old friend from high school, was a decent little area. Each of them had their own room and a bathroom to share. Outside, a place for the television, an old couch they’d procured from Nathan’s grandmother, and a small window overlooking the city down below. On the other side, the kitchen waited for his arrival, complete with nice countertops and a breakfast bar.

    He shuffled to the kitchen, tugging out an empty bowl from the cabinet. He could already hear the water running and assumed it must be Nathan taking a shower. It was only when his phone gave a loud buzz from the charging table in front of the television that he snapped out of his sleepy stupor.

    Abandoning the bowl, he moved to pick up the device. He blinked at the sight of Estella’s name before answering the call. Umm, hello?

    Have you seen the news? Turn on Channel 4 right fucking now.
