Then her brother was killed and she became Twilight, the stealthy, black-clad nemesis of organised crime in New Millennium City. Then she met Cygnus, almost her exact opposite, but they worked well together: Cygnus in the light and Twilight in the darkness. But there is something in the darkness which is stalking Andrea Morgan. It has been there, in the shadows, since mankind sat around the fires on the plains of Africa and wondered what was out there beyond the firelight. It wants Andrea dead, but sometimes when you die that’s just the start of your problems... Let’s start again. Maybe there was never a time when Andrea Morgan was a normal girl...

New Millennium City is in chaos. Gangs are fighting for territory, riots are breaking out, and Cygnus and Twilight have their hands full. But they are drawn away from their home town by the call of a fallen alien spaceship which may hold the secrets to Cygnus’s powers. San Francisco, the City on the Bay, where an old enemy poses a new threat, and one of the good guys, Mink, is wanted for the murder of a hero. To get to the bottom of things, everyone is out to hunt down one of the most enigmatic Ultrahumans on the planet: the beautiful, mysterious Mink.

As New Millennium City tries to recover from a violent summer, a new rash of terrors hits the streets. An arsonist is at work in the more affluent areas of the city, destroying property and ensuring that people die in his fires. Fire Bug seeks the help of Cygnus, Svetilo, and even Twilight to fight the flames and save lives, but it’s hard to keep up with someone who seems to be able to go anywhere he wishes. Meanwhile, in Deale Harbour, an icy death awaits those on the streets at night as a killer stalks the night freezing his victims to death. Twilight is on the case but there is an aspect to it which worries her: her boyfriend, Jacob, has been exhibiting random bursts of Ultrahuman power, power which lowers the temperature around him. Could Jacob by the man responsible for the frozen corpses mounting up in the morgue?

New Millennium City is quiet. Cygnus and Twilight, the city’s protectors, have organised crime on the run. But things are about to change in a big way as the alien peacekeepers known as the Guardians arrive on Earth looking for a rogue member of their organisation: Cygnus. The Guardians are effectively immortal and they are determined to bring Cygnus in, so how do you defeat someone with advanced technology who can simply take a new body if they should happen to die? What sacrifices will Cygnus and Twilight have to make to defeat their greatest ever threat?

America has a new national hero, the enigmatic Miss Liberty, along with a new president. There are aliens in orbit around Mars. Someone is blowing up inconsequential buildings with massive amounts of explosives. A preacher is ‘casting demons’ from Ultrahumans, taking away their powers in the name of God. And an eldritch horror is rising from the depths of Puget Sound. For Cygnus and Twilight, it’s just another Tuesday.

Twilight is missing. Her darkest personality has taken control, and no one knows where she is or what she might do. Across the globe, the cosmic energy pulse from two dying spaceships has unleashed a new wave of Ultrahumans, often stronger than has ever been seen before. In America, a hero thought lost returns, but with him comes a danger everyone thought had died beneath the ruins of New York. Cygnus, the Guardian of Earth, has her work cut out for her if she’s ever to bring her lost friend home.

Trouble brews on the west coast as Mink’s real identity is revealed and the villains crawl out of the woodwork to get her. But is this the opportunity she, Cygnus, and Twilight need to finally take care of California’s criminal royalty?
