Victory: Hour of Need

About this ebook
Will our heroes of the past joining forces with the heroes of Legend be enough, A grittier tale, containing moments of prolonged tension, with our heroes encountering scary alien evil...will they prevail.. A story intended for all ages. More sensitive youngsters may benefit from an adult supervised first read. Some gender and reproduction references, Experience extreme danger, battles taking place both on the ground and in space.
The crew of The Victory: The Last Destroyer have embraced the changes of this new time. In so doing have produced many medical and practical new ideas. Innovation from the combinations of old and new are constant and often for the greater good. But not all. Victory’s First Officer Paul Roberts, saying of one to the Historian Ritany, “I thought, one more planet killing weapon on Victory, was just one more than she needed. Victory was already a perfectly capable destroyer.”
In this New Age, Fleet is looking for a role to play. Little did they anticipate, that role would find them...Will Fleet’s heroes of the past joining forces with heroes of Legend be enough?
Have the Historians behaved selfishly or selflessly? They have restored long forgotten relics, from a dangerous and deadly past. In the liberating of long held prisoners have fulfilled oaths. Oaths taken by the now dead military of earth, the founders of their order. Victors write history, have the historians change it for the better, or have they doomed us all?
Flint Reginald
The Author: Flint Reginald. Flint resides in the UK, with his wife. She recently gave him over into indentured servitude to two cats Bandit (in the picture, the one on the right) and Rumour (pic on my amazon page). When he is not attending to his new cat masters’ needs, he writes fiction stories or reads some. The cats don’t appear to care what he writes about; they just like the noise of him typing and as far as he can tell, they cannot read. Flint is thankful to all the people in the world that made computer technology an affordable reality for everyone, without it none of his stories would ever have been told (written).

Flagship of the Fleet
Patterson was looking over towards the assembled cadets. Three groups were on the muster deck. She was not in any rush to arrive at Medical. Patterson was on her way to attend yet one more advancement demonstration. It was another new treatment; some innovation from the Victory’s medical team. As Captain, invitations to demonstrations or requests for discussion meetings were coming from all over Victory. From the navigation team, the quartermasters, reclamation waste management, even the catering operation was getting in on the proceedings. Alongside the two from this morning attributed to recreation and leisure... Any day now, she was expecting an invite from the ship’s barber to a demonstration of some new hair cutting thingamabob…
The crew of Victory, embracing the new challenges with vigor, had made some massive and impressive leaps. Most of the numerous discoveries had been in the medical field so far. The crew had successfully merged the long-forgotten techniques and technology from Victory’s past, with the practices and methods available now at this time of Victory’s rebirth.
Patterson had lingered far longer than she had intended at the muster deck and noted a group of cadets had begun to form ranks in front of her location. The training officer and two sergeants were heading purposefully towards her. They came to attention with crisp salutes.
Captain, I respectfully request your inspection and assessment of the assembled troops, Ma’am!
The officers request was quite legitimate, she was after all a senior officer, lingering in the training area. Therefore, in fitting with fleet protocol, she became a usable, useful training aid. Patterson sighed internally and returned the salute.
Of course, gentlemen. Let us proceed.
Medical would have to wait a little longer.
♦♦♦
The inspection had been decidedly pleasant, the recruits had been well turned out. They had shown good discipline and were well-versed in fleet law when questioned. All had given the impression of genuine enthusiasm towards the changing roles that they would all play in the new Earth Defense Force.
Patterson arrived at the door to Medical and was about to enter when a voice from the past declared from behind her, Never make Captain? Of course, you will… Just not today!
Patterson twirled around sharply. Dropping her normal steadfast officer persona, she flung her arms around the greying haired man before her. George T Howard, you, you, old space wizard! When did you come aboard?
Looking over his shoulder, Patterson noted for the first time that they were not alone. Howard was flanked by two more officers: both wearing the insignia of Medical and badged with the ship name, ‘Haven’. Of course, this did not surprise Patterson. After all, George T Howard, was Captain Howard of the fleet hospital ship ‘Haven’.
Patterson stepped back from George and straightened her uniform. Amused, she watched him straighten his own. He was smiling broadly.
Patterson kept up her questioning. Why did you not tell me you were coming?
She looked at him, her eyes serious, Me and my security officer are going to have words.
She paused for a breath, I have standing orders. I am to be immediately informed of all Officer arrivals.
George’s smile lit up even wider across his bearded face. I had the Admiral order your officer not to tell you!
He winked at her. I told the Admiral, I did not want to miss out…
He squinted his eyes leaning towards her, then continued, on seeing, this very surprising expression on your face.
He straightened back up and stopped squinting. Ahh, the opportunity was too good to miss. Come on, how could I resist it? Surprise the Captain of Victory, the Captain of the flag ship of the fleet?
He feigned a look of concentration, holding his chin with his hand and stroking his luxuriant, longer than regulation, grey beard.
Patterson, looked over at the two accompanying officers. Is he still like this on his own ship?
The officer on the right, gave a crisp salute, Captain, he is like this, every place we take him. He just will not take his medication…
George successfully stifled a laugh, unlike the other officer, who snorted out loud.
The officer continued, I am Medical surgeon, Doctor Cat Howard. Pleased to meet you, Captain Patterson. It is truly an honor.
Patterson looked quizzical, Howard?
George jumped in saying, Yes, my loving but ever doting niece. I am certain, she joined fleet, just to keep me out of trouble!
Cat Howard moved past him towards Patterson. I would have to report myself, for failing under my duty, if I thought I could keep you out of trouble… unc… Captain.
Patterson made a realization. Kitty, your niece! Of course, she was what four? Maybe five last time we spoke about her.
Yes, very true, Sandra,
said George.
Patterson smiled once again. George was one of the very few who ever used her first name. It felt good to hear it.
George went on, It’s been quite a few Light Pulse Jumps since that conversation. Medical school and then full Doctor. Then surgery training! A year in fleet officer cadets... Now she’s all grown up, from five to twenty-five in a blink. I invoked family transfer as soon as the WAR protocol was in effect. I’m keeping her near to me for the time being. So, I can watch her as she grows this time. Now that she is fleet family, not just my family too.
The secure door to Medical, slid open and a med team member looked out. Please come this way. Now you are here Captains, we can begin.
Proceeding into the room, Patterson could see it was prepared and they had been waiting for them. A marine that Patterson recognized, was sitting next to what appeared to resemble a Teacher cabinet. This one however, was at an angle, leaning out and down from the wall.
It had a med bay examination and diagnostic bed secured within it. The faint blue glow of gravity generators could be seen at one side. Patterson remembered meeting the marine previously, as well as looking at his detailed medical reports. It was tragic. He had been injured in a fall, when Victory had passed through the temporal horizon of the prison she had been held in.
