THERE ARE SOME IN THE kingdom of grace that has never lived a brazen lifestyle full of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. And then there are the rest of us. I remember back when Billy Graham's wife, Ruth, gave her testimony. She was almost ashamed that her testimony didn't contain any of the flowery and demonstrative sin patterns experienced by so many.

Her testimony was simple. She was raised in a godly family and had loved the Lord her entire life. The Christian community exploded, and she was commended for sharing what is a wonderful testament to God's mercy and grace in a time of social experimentation and upheaval.

Maybe you share this same testimony. Or, more than likely, you come from the other side of the tracks and have done things that would make a sailor blush. In BOTH cases the following passage written to the Ephesian believers applies. Whether you were a goodie-two-shoes or rotten to the core, you were dead.

"Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts

if those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature, we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.  So, God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of His grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all He has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus."

There is a line in one of the Bourne movies where an intelligence operative, Niki Parsons, is in the room when people unfamiliar with Jason Bourne are discussing what he is doing.

They ask the question, Who is giving him (Jason Bourne) his assignments now? Niki answers, The scary version... he is.

I want to encourage you that IF you are in the kingdom of grace then you have a new Commander and His name is I AM. This Commander is not like the devil. Our new Leader is positioning you for greatness and glory. But, if we decide to go it on our own, Niki could say the same thing about us and who is giving us our assignments... The scary version... we are.

Some may argue that they haven’t done bad things and that may or may not be the truth. After all, there are behaviors deemed bad in one group and not in another. The group sets the rules based on myriad input over years and sometimes, even over centuries.

The argument carries into the line of thinking that they haven’t been disobedient like the Bible is inferring but what is NOT considered is the FACT that we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The reason? The first Adam.

You see, when Adam decided to be disobedient, we all became disobedient. Not fair, is it? But, fair or not, that is what happened. Now the beauty of what the Lord Jesus Christ did is this. Being the Second Adam, He died on a cross for our sinfulness and our disobedience. And, when He died, having become our sin, we died too and were offered the ability to come home to the Father as we recognized this amazing truth. Look at what the Bible says.

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is
