    Dedication

Along my writing journey, many people have supported me. For that, I am so grateful, especially to Susan Ard (who told my youngest he could stuff his clothes under his bed) and said, Keep going. Thank you to friends and family. I appreciate all the writing friends who have given their advice and those who were at the other end of an email. And I especially thank Kathleen Baldwin who from the very beginning helped me take dreams to fruition.

    I especially appreciate Handsome.

    To readers:

You’ve read my stories and were thoughtful enough to comment, share, and review. Thank you!

    And a Note

These are very little stories written especially to be short. They do not lead into a longer story at all. Maybe they could; however, I find there is something to be said for short. So, for now, these shall remain as they are. I hope you enjoy them.

    Bug Stuff

    HELP.

In my experience, no man ever yelled help unless the situation was pretty drastic. And desperate. I whipped around the corner, my heels skidding to a stop on the break room’s linoleum floor. Grabbing a chair to steady myself, I found hunky Jake Gerstrom, the new accountant about whom interesting availability rumors swirled.

    I said, What’s wrong, Jake?

Take that, you beast. He flicked a dish towel in my direction. Lindsey, you’re just the woman for a rescue. I’m tangling with a monstrous roach, probably as big as my hand. He raced to the other side and smacked the refrigerator.

    The water bug kind?

Yes. His gaze shifted around. I’m positive it winked at me.

Must be a female. I chuckled. So, squash it.

    Easier said than done.

    Why?

Cause she’s sneaky? He pointed. See? She’s hiding behind the faucet.

    A sneaky pest—how funny.

Leaning forward, he squinted. If I force her in the drain, I can flush her down the disposal.

    That’s because--

I don’t like the squishing part.

    Because--

    Bug guts...everywhere.

Smiling to myself, I watched Jake’s crazy exterminator antics. Usually, most girls avoided killing the critters, not manly he-men. You could try—

    A trap, we said.

The creature chose that moment to rise and twitch her lengthy antenna. Jake said, She’s laughing in the face of danger.

    I said, How about—

Mom uses a white powder. Too bad we don’t have some.

Undoubtedly, the government banned it. I nodded. Some stuff can be dangerous. For that reason, I use wasp spray for personal defense.

Really? He zeroed his gaze in on me. I haven’t heard of that method.

Shoots a long stream and stings the eyes. I
