I was born in British Columbia, Canada and grew up in the rockies before traveling to see the world. I’ve been writing Science Fiction and Fantasy for more than a decade, but only recently have decided to share my work through eBooks. Currently I have a backlog of novels that I am editing and publishing on various platforms. I write the type of Science Fiction and Fantasy that I enjoy reading. Most of my work takes place in the same ‘universe’ with subtle crossovers that allow fans of my work to pick up on the nuances, while new readers don’t have to play catch up. Please feel free to leave a review, I always love hearing from readers. If you want to chat, you can find me on twitter @NeilMosspark or email NeilMosspark@gmail.com. Thanks for reading!

The Thorne Inc. Files - Neil Mosspark
Foreword
Olivia Thorne is my favorite character to write. She grew up just after 'The Black' event, which wiped out most of Toronto. She was orphaned at an early age and grew up on the streets.
This collection is a group of stories pulled from my 'Tales from the Mosspark Universe' series, and highlight's Olivia's growth from a street kid, to a mercenary, to a private detective.
I hope you enjoy her sass and rough attitude as much as I do.

The Job Offer
Olivia crouched outside the vent in the wall watching warm air, condensing to steam, pour out of the opening. The rain had soaked through her dirty clothes and her shoeless feet stood in a growing puddle. The idea that it would be warmer inside was inviting. It was the problems on the other side of the wall that had her attention.
She shifted her weight to look into the darkness as the sounds of the busy city echoed off the alleyway's graffiti-covered concrete walls.
Look, kid, crawl inside and open the door. We already talked about this,
the white-haired man said. He sat hunched next to the open vent. His wide shoulders, assault rifle, and fully loaded tactical vest wouldn't let him crawl through, even if he tried.
Olivia scratched her short, dirty hair and looked at the dark hole. What if there are those other guys in there?
That's why we need to get inside,
he hissed, pointing with an angry finger. Get in there before we find another kid. If you don't want the food, we're happy to offer it to some other urchin.
Olivia's stomach ached from hunger. No. Please, I'll do it. I'm just worried what they will do to me if I get caught.
Don't get caught then!
came an impatient voice. The other men in balaclavas seemed less pleasant than the one giving the orders.
Ten protein bars?
She raised an eyebrow.
Ten, that's it. That's all we have.
Can I have one of those?
She pointed to the gun in the man's holster.
Don't be stupid,
he chastised.
You're the one who needs me to unlock the door.
Dammit, kid, you're either going to do this or you're not. Which is it?
What about the knife?
The man sighed. Fine. Take the knife. Just open the goddamn door.
He pulled the long blade out of its sheath attached to his vest and slapped the handle into her hand. The weight reassured her. She immediately felt stronger. The blade glinted as drops of rain fell onto it.
Okay. I'll do it.
Olivia laid flat on the ground in the puddle. She could smell the runoff from the street. It stank of exhaust and oil from the cars, mixed with the garbage of the alley. Shimmying into the tight hole, she held the knife out front, guarding herself against the immediate darkness.
The metal flexed silently as her undernourished frame slid lightly along the flat bottom. Moist air gave way to dry dust. On contact, her wet clothes sopped up the thin coating on the floor.
As expected, the further she moved down the vent, the warmer the air became.
A small sliver of light ahead gave her hope
