About this ebook
'Serial killers turn up all the time in crime fiction, but few are as patient or as devious as the murderer in Zhou Haohui's Death Notice. This extraordinary novel is the first in a trilogy, and it is already China's bestselling crime series to date' Sunday Times
THE LAW IS WEAKFor nearly two decades an unsolved double homicide has haunted Sergeant Zheng Haoming of the Chengdu Police Department.
I OFFER REAL JUSTICENow it looks as if the long-dormant killer has resurfaced, taunting law enforcement with 'death notices' proclaiming their next victim and the date of 'execution'. Perhaps modern police techniques – criminal profiling, online surveillance, SWAT teams – can catch a killer who previously evaded justice? Or perhaps this killer is more than a match for the Chengdu Police Department.
ONE SENTENCE: DEATHDeath Notice is the first book in the Chinese crime series phenomenon: a high-octane, high-concept cat-and-mouse thriller that adds an exhilarating new gear to the police procedural. The second book in the series, Fate is out in December 2020.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5An action-packed crime thriller set in China that sold more than 1 million print copies and is now published in English. The killer styles himself as an avenger of unpunished crimes, calling himself Eumenides & sending out death notices listing their crimes and date of execution. This is the first book in a trilogy has a complicated plot & sometimes stilted dialogue but it was a pretty exciting page turner!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Zhou Haohui is a popular crime writer here in China and with good reason, this is a gripping police procedural about an elite squad in Chengdu who are on the trail of a serial killer. Death Notice is the first book of a trilogy, but the only one to have been translated into English so far. I can't wait for the other books to be translated. It some ways it reminds me of the Scandi-Crime books by Stieg Larsson and Jo Nesbo, but at the same time it is very Chinese. Fascinating insights into modern China and how the police force there operates, and with an interesting cast of characters. It has been superbly translated by Zac HaluzaIf you are a crime fiction fan, this is a MUST read.
