    INTRODUCTION

This book seeks to answer some of the questions regarding Heaven that we often ask ourselves, such as: Is it a real place? Where is it? Who will be there? And what will those who get there be doing? And what we need to realize here is that what is presently known about Heaven is what God has revealed to human beings, which He has made known in His word, the Bible. In other words, any other source of information about Heaven than God Himself would be mere human speculation, since no one has ever gone to Heaven and come back to earth again to tell others about it, except God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ (and also a believer named Paul, which we will look at in Chapter Three of the book). And the main reason for God revealing to human beings all He wanted us to know about Heaven in His word, The Bible, is due to the fact that He very much desires to see as many human beings end up there as possible, once one’s life here on earth has run its course!

Then we are also to note that at the back of the book there is an Addendum with three sections. In Addendum A, there is a brief outline of the four ages of time, for any reading the book who might not be familiar with this information. Then in Addendum B, there is a brief outline of the two comings from Heaven to earth in time of God’s Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any who may not be familiar with this information either. And then in Addendum C, we have a presentation of the gospel, which is the good news that God gives in His word regarding His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, for any readers who might not as yet have that vital personal relationship with God through faith in His Son. It is highly recommended that one start with the Addendum before one begins reading the book.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999 and then sent him out more than two thousand miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God has assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, all now married with a family of their own.

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to every need in your life, as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving, both now and forevermore! Amen.

"Give thanks to the God of Heaven,

    for His lovingkindness is everlasting."

    Psalm 136:26

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

    Genesis 1:1

    CHAPTER ONE

Distinguishing between Heaven, as God’s eternal and uncreated home, and the two created heavens that God brought into existence at the original creation in time

    1) Heaven as God’s eternal and uncreated home

The simplest definition of what is Heaven is that it is God’s home! In other words, Heaven is where God lives, where He makes His home! We said in the Introduction that all that can be known about Heaven is only what God has revealed about it in His word, the Bible. Therefore, this is now where we need to look in order to get confirmation of this fact, namely that Heaven is God’s home. In the quote from Psalm 136:26 preceding this chapter, we read in part, Give thanks to the God of Heaven. And not just here, but also 23 other times in the Bible, God is called, the God of Heaven. And please note that in this book we have capitalized the word Heaven, to indicate that we have God’s eternally existing and uncreated home in view, even though the word may not be capitalized as found in God’s word, when translated from the original Greek into English by the translators.

What is also important to keep in mind here relating to God is that He is eternal, in that He has no beginning and therefore no end, which means that He has always existed and always will exist. Let us note what God reveals about Himself at Deuteronomy 33:27 in part, The eternal God is a dwelling place (that is, a refuge) and underneath are the everlasting arms. Since God is eternal, in terms of always existing, and since Heaven is His eternal and uncreated home, then this also means that Heaven will also always exist, it will always be there!

This is comforting to know as there are not too many things in this world that we can count on to be there tomorrow. Almost anything we can think of is here today and gone tomorrow. Even as human beings, our life span here on earth is very short compared to eternity. Let us note what God mentions on this very fact at Psalm 103:15,16, [15] As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. [16] When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, and its place acknowledges it no longer. So let us remember as we go on that God is eternal and that Heaven is God’s eternal and uncreated home!

    2) The two created heavens that God brought into existence at the time of the original creation

What we now need to do is to distinguish between the three heavens that God speaks about in His word, the Bible. Two of these three heavens are created heavens, while the third one is God’s eternal and uncreated home, which has always existed. And the best way to introduce the fact of three heavens being in existence during the four ages of time is to note what God tells us in the very first verse of His word to mankind, at Genesis 1:1, where we read, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And we are to see that the beginning God has in view here is when He created all that exists at the time of the original creation, which is also when time started, noting what God says in regards to the marking of time at Genesis 1:14, Then God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be (that is, the sun and the moon) for signs and for seasons and for days and years…

Since we are clearly told here at Genesis 1:1 that in the beginning God created the heavens, and since God speaks of these heavens as plural and as being created, then it is certain that God does not have His own eternally existing and uncreated home, Heaven, in view here! And if we turn to 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 in God’s word, we there see that God does mention His eternal and uncreated home, Heaven, there referring to it as the third Heaven, [2] I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago — whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows — such a man was caught up to the third heaven. [3] And I know how such a man — whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows — [4] was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak. And so as to not go into error here, it is important to know at the outset that Paradise here is NOT Heaven per se, although part of Heaven, here being spoken of as being WITHIN the third Heaven itself! We will return to talk about Paradise later in the book, when looking at what God reveals about Heaven during the fourth age of time as part of Chapter Six.

And we should also mention here is that the man in Christ giving this testimony here at 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 just quoted is a believer by the name of Paul; and we will deal with his mention of going to the third Heaven in the next chapter of the book. But for now, as relating to our present subject, we are to note that we have the mention of the third Heaven, as here being a reference to God’s eternally existing and uncreated home. What this also means then is that since God here speaks of a third Heaven, then the heavens we have just seen mentioned as being created by God at the original creation must be the first and second created heavens!

A study of the word heavens in God’s word has revealed that the first created heaven is the one just above the earth, which includes all that is visible to mankind with the naked eye and all man-made instruments, such as the sun, the moon, the stars, other planets, etc. Then the second created heaven is that which man cannot see, since it is invisible to us as human beings. So just as the earth and its heaven were created by God for mankind, the second created heaven was created by God for the angelic beings, as being their original abode.

Let us also note here what God says about His original creation, which He brought into existence through His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, as we see at Colossians 1:16 in God’s word, For by Him (that is, God’s Son) all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things have been created through Him and for Him. So let us note for our present purpose that here God again mentions the heavens and the earth, same as at Genesis 1:1, but now also mentions the visible and invisible, which indicates that there is an invisible world in existence beyond what man can see, which we will return to talk about in the next chapter.

But for now, and relating to the first created heaven that God brought into existence at the original creation, we are to note that when God speaks of heaven at Psalm 113:6, saying, Who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth?, it is clear that He is speaking of the first created heaven, which is always seen as being associated with the present original earth and always part of the realm of the visible. However, in contrast to this, when God speaks of heaven at Revelation 12:7-9, there saying, [7] And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, [8] and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. [9] And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him, it is clear that here God is now speaking of the second created heaven, as the abode of the angelic beings created by God at the time of the original creation, which is now to be seen as being an invisible realm to us as human beings here on earth.

Therefore, let us remember as we go on that God has two created heavens in view, the first created heaven, as being associated with this earth and containing all that is visible to mankind; while the second created heaven is seen as being the original home of the angelic beings, which is always invisible to mankind. And apart from these two created heavens, which were brought into existence by God at the time of the original creation, we have a third Heaven, which at the time of God’s original creation, was already in existence as God’s own eternally existing and uncreated home! If there are any readers who would like to read more on the angelic beings, including the devil and his demons, plus what God has to say about the three heavens, please see the author’s book, The Mysterious World Of Angels And Demons.

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

    John 4:24

    CHAPTER TWO

    Heaven is a spiritual place!

What we are now to see in this chapter is that Heaven, as what is God’s eternal and uncreated home, has not only eternally existed, but is also to be seen as being a spiritual place! To begin with then, let us note again the quote preceding this chapter, which is what God reveals about Himself at John 4:24, God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. When God says that He is spirit here, He is indicating that He is a spirit Being, which then means that Heaven must be a spiritual place!

What this also means then is that in contrast to Heaven, which is a spiritual realm, this earth and its first created heaven are to be seen as being a physical realm. So when God spoke of the visible and invisible at Colossians 1:16 as having been brought into existence by Him through His Son at original creation, we are to remember that this did not include Heaven, as the third Heaven, as God’s eternally existing and uncreated home! The visible there referred to the earth and all it contains, including the first created heaven associated with it and all it contains, which forms part of the physical realm of this present world.

And then the invisible there referred to the second created heaven, as having been brought into existence by God at the time of the original creation, as the original home of the angelic beings. What we are to now see is that the second created heaven is termed invisible simply because it is also a spiritual place. And what this means then is that the angelic beings themselves are all spirit beings! That is why God refers to the angelic beings in His word as spirit beings, noting for instance at Acts 16:16,18, how God refers to a demon, which is a fallen angel, [16] It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling… [18] She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her! And it came out at that very moment.

What we are to also see here is that since God is a spirit Being, which means He dwells in the spiritual realm, then He – and speaking here of The Father – has revealed Himself in His word as being invisible, as we read at 1 Timothy 1:17, Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. And what we are further to see here is that although God has revealed Himself as being One God, noting here 1 Timothy 2:5, For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, yet He has revealed Himself in His word as being Three Persons in One God, noting what God says at Matthew 28:19, Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And what we are also to grasp here is that God The Father and His Holy Spirit are always invisible, for both time and eternity, with The Son of God always being the visible expression of The One invisible God, for both time and eternity! Let us note what God says in His word in this regard, first what He says regarding His Son at Colossians 1:15 in part, He (The Son of God) is the image of the invisible God…, and then secondly also at Hebrews 1:2,3 in part, [2] in these last days (He, God The Father) has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. [2] And He (The Son) is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature… That is why God’s Son told one of His followers one day, what we read at John 14:9 in God’s word, Jesus said to him, Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us the Father'? " So let us remember here that God’s Son is always put forth as the visible expression of The One invisible God!

And while we are talking about Heaven being a spiritual place, with God being a spiritual Being, along with the angelic beings
