      Chapter One

      Apink plus sign was staring back at JD from the cheap plastic stick, and it took her mind, her eyes, a minute to register what this could possibly mean.

      It couldn’t be right. It had to be a mistake, considering it had happened only one time, one stupid moment in which her husband—and she was still having to remind herself of the fact that she was now Mrs. Friessen—had forgotten to wear a condom.

      What was she going to do? Motherhood was nothing she’d expected at this time in her life, but she’d also never expected to be married to a man she hardly knew. She was only now discovering that the chemistry that rocked between them was basically all they had in common.

      There was a knock on the bathroom door, and the knob rattled.

      JD. Chris was on the other side, sounding impatient. That was another thing about the man that she hadn’t expected and had chalked up to a quirk of his personality, but it was turning into something that could become an issue between them, that dominant side of him that seemed to want to know what was going on with her, invading her space so much that she couldn’t breathe.

      The door knob rattled again when she said
