    GOD

    What is god

Our ancestors didn't know about the causes of volcanoes, earthquakes, life etc but they guessed it has to have a reason. They imagined that whatever was behind it has to be powerful and they called it god. But there was a problem, there was nobody who saw god or nobody who knew what all he can do. In fact they didn't have any idea about god. So they began to compare him with other powerful things they knew about or which they imagined. They compared him to the sun, the lion, ruler of the moon and also to us, giving him leadership qualities, emotions, wishes, anger etc. Then they wanted to know if we could please god and if possible how, so that they could get favors from him or because of fear or curiosity. They knew that the ways we can please someone is by offering something, respecting them, obeying them etc. So they thought it would work with god and hence came offerings, rituals and prayers. They were also curious to know where god is. But there is nobody who ever saw him and it was obvious to them that he was somewhere they couldn't see. So they imagined he may be above the sky, inside earth, under the ocean, inside the volcanoes, invisible etc. So their search for truth resulted in the concept of god, his properties, needs and wishes. It also led to the use of god as an explanation for events, phenomenon etc. But their search was guided by their imagination, fears, ignorance and limitations rather than logic. So what was really happening was, sometimes they chose the belief that they could explain things using imagination, over the reality that they didn't know about some things.

God stands for so many things for so many people. People consider god to be a person, the sun, the moon, stars, the cause of everything, everything, something that controls everything or beyond imagination. God's nature differ to different people. Some people believe that he interfere in our lives and some don't. Some may believe in gods who keep a record of what we do in our lives and use it to judge what we get after our lives. Some have gods that doesn't wait that long, they give us immediate results. Some others have gods who have planned everything out and consider us to be playing out our assigned roles. For some, gods made a system in which we get what we give so there is no need for him to interfere directly. Some have gods who have intermediaries to take care of different aspects of this world with him either acting as a coordinator or leaving it to his intermediaries’ altogether. Irrespective of how god is defined, most people who believe in god, consider him to be the most powerful, all knowing supreme being.

    Does god exist

Some people are curious about this because they think god controls everything and can definitely control each and every one of us. So they believe that if we do something he doesn't like he can make us suffer and if we do something he likes, he can reward us with happiness, prosperity and wellbeing. They think that for us to be happy we need to do things which pleases him and for that we need to know what pleases him. With no clue of what god means to us or if there is god or if he has feelings or something similar to it, they venture into wild imagination with ignorance, anxiety and fear to fuel it.

People may believe god influence us directly or through a manipulation of our surroundings. They may believe he does this because he wants peace, love and happiness for everybody. They may justify their belief by telling that god cured somebody and all that person did was pray to god, or may tell that a person got into an accident and is in pain because god punished him or some other reason along those lines. They may attribute everything as actions, which we do, to which god gives an appropriate response or they may see everything as part of god's plan and, us moving and talking and speaking as per his wishes. They may believe there is always a balance between good and evil and may think god keeps this balance. But it is not how things happen. When we look around, there are many things which are contrary to such beliefs. An influential person can harm others, get away with it and lead on a happy life. There are children born with serious illnesses and they will have to live with it for the rest of their lives. Some people make bombs and blow up a whole area in the name of god. These are all things the most powerful supreme being could have stopped. He could have stopped the influential person from misusing his power, could have healed the children and saved them a lot of suffering, could have made the person not destroy in god's name and all of this quite easily. But it is not how it really works. We may believe there is a balance between happiness and the suffering in our lives, we may believe everybody is equal, but things don't work out that way. What we can infer from this is, if there is a god, he doesn't get in the way of anything or he doesn't care.

We do not know if the universe has a beginning or if it existed forever in some form or another. But if you believe there is a definite beginning to our universe and you believe that some power created it, however or whatever it may be, then believe there is god. But keep in mind that it is a belief based on the belief that the universe has a beginning. But if you think that we are special, god made the universe for us and god cares about human actions and emotions then there cannot be such a god. It is because there is no need for billions of galaxies to support human life but there are billions of galaxies, we catch diseases, suffer and the organisms which cause it are getting better at it. People get sad, depressed, may commit suicide, get into accidents, catch diseases and it doesn't seem to bother god, it is happening every single moment. Giving emotions and associating human qualities to god is a reflection of our ignorance and
