Chapter 1
Rain dripped steadily from the dense canopy high above and Poppy stared glumly at the smouldering camp fire. The sudden deluge had taken her by surprise, and the fire that had taken her so long to kindle had been doused in just seconds.
Now what?
she asked herself softly as she scanned the surrounding forest, everywhere dripped, everything was soaked including herself, how could she start a fire again with wet wood.
And wet matches she groaned in frustration as the fingers in her pocket felt the cardboard matchbox disintegrating at her touch, the rain had passed swiftly through her trousers and added the final nail to the coffin that should have been supper for the team.
She wasn't designed for the jungle... Poppy was a city girl, delicate, pretty and refined and not really suited for the rigours of her current position as Camp Chef, and although she might not have been the best cook in the world, and she certainly didn't
