About this ebook
These four stories, The Bookshop of Illusion, The Return of the Probe, The Audition and The Beginning of the End are from David Anderson's two books of short stories: The Other Side and The Pareidolia Effect. Ranging from sci-fi, fantasy, to human interest and tales of human torment, they tread paths that may veer in an unplanned direction.
David Anderson
David Anderson lives in Minnesota with with wife Rebecca and their Teddy Bear puppy Buddy. An avid dog lover his whole life, David has translated that passion into his writing. Growing up on a farm, David was exposed to all sorts of animals; raising Cattle, Sheep, Hogs, Horses, and Chickens, as well as caring for his families dogs and cats. "Some of my favorite memories as a child involve running through the pasture with my dogs, and lazy summer days spent lying in the grass with all the animals" Anderson said. "As a young boy I really wanted to be a veterinarian, and while I eventually chose a different path, my passion for animals never wore off." That passion for animals continued as he graduated college and started to make his way into the world. Mr. Anderson launched LP Media, a company that is dedicated to promoting and educating the public about the joys of pet ownership. The company started small, but quickly grew and now helps over a million pet owners every month. Anderson continues to write and search for ways to help other people who are contemplating the decision to become a pet owner. "My work is never done" he said. "I love helping other people and providing great resources that they can use to help better their lives, and the lives of their pets. I plan on continuing to create great products that help pet owners for as long as I can!"

The Return of the Probe
‘Sir, what if I said you’re the last person alive that served on the mission the day Voyager 1 blasted off from Cape Canaveral in 1977?’
‘Well I didn’t realise I was the only one left.’
‘According to NASA records you were a hot young scientist on the team that created the audio -visual gold disc that accompanied Voyager. This consisted of works from Mozart to Chuck Berry, together with other speeches and films, and 55 languages, just in case other life out there found it?’
‘Yes. That’s correct. That’s a very condensed version of the amount of material archived.’
The ancient man leaned up from his nursing home bed and stared at the important visitors.
‘Why come to me? Who are you?’
The man dressed in black took off his sunglasses and sat on the old man’s bed.
‘I’m Chief Special Agent Milton Bryant, and this is Special Agent Estela Sanchez, and Junior Agent Phillip Grimsley. We’re assigned by order of the President. I have a gold disc retrieved from Voyager 1 a few days ago.’
The old man burst into laughter.
‘Well that’s not damn possible. Why Voyager 1 left Earth seventy years back. I was only twenty five.’
‘Yes. We realise that.’
‘Why even in half that time, around 2010, it was ten billion miles from the Sun. Imagine how far it is now. ‘
‘A few weeks ago The International Space Station IV, discovered a probe approaching from deep space and drifting along within their orbit. It was recovered and found to be Voyager 1. You’ll be interested to view it.’
Bryant took a key and unlocked a small brief case Agent Sanchez had secured to her wrist, then rested it upon the bed. Opening it, he withdrew a Perspex box containing
