    PROLOGUE

So, we’re really going to do this? Terra shuddered and actually looked a touch scared when she asked. Given this was her brain child, it was a cute reaction.

You damn straight we’re doing this, Dylan moved to Dred’s side, throwing her arm around her shoulder. We got this.

The four women had talked about opening a casino since freshman year at Hampton U and hadn’t waivered from their goal. Most people thought they were crazy, which was more or less true. This was a dream they weren’t letting go of. When Milley, their realtor, approached Dredd about a beautiful, beachfront casino hotel up for sale they’d jumped at the chance. Only, this was not the building they had done the walk through with Milley on. The one they had the specs for. This joint was rundown and needed a hell of a lot of work and Milley was long gone with their two point five million- everything they had in the world.

Instead of finding Miley and spit roast her sorry ass after they beaten their money out of her, they went to work. They had the deed on a choice piece of beachfront property right on the Gulf of Mexico. The damn place was about to be the hottest thing jumping on the Gulf Coast, so help them God. Together, they were unstoppable, unbeatable, and with a little more than a touch of criminality sprinkled into the mix. They hustled the money to fix up the place, putting their lives on hold until they attained their goal. As a result, they managed to get the funds to not only repair their dream business but make it as posh as they wanted. A little at a time.

Thanks to their endeavors, Dredd was officially banned from all riverboat casinos traveling up and down the Mississippi. And Terra was definitely not welcome anywhere near Wall Street. It was best if Emmaline stayed far away from Nevada…actually the West in general. And Dylan, well, Dylan went down to South Florida and came back with stacks of cash. The subject wasn’t discussed beyond that. Didn’t matter, they had their funds, they had the will, now they were gonna do the damn thing.

According to my calculations, Emmaline pulled out her phone to punch in some numbers on the calculator. We can refurbish mostly and still have a decent operating budget thanks to Dredd and Dylan to open. But we might need a healthy cash injection if we run into any unforeseen problems the inspectors didn’t catch.

If we need more, Dylan and I will handle it, Dredd stated with her custom ‘So-let-it-be-written, did you hear what I said?’ voice.

Damn, straight, Dylan nodded, momentarily forgetting she was in four-inch heels as she tried to stomp over to Terra. Luckily, Terra had anticipated her friends move and caught her by the arm, steadying her You nerds need to concentrate on the organizational side of the business and finance. I’m going to find the best casino security contractors then acquire their ideas.

Anyone overhearing them might’ve thought she was going to pick their brains for ideas. But the other three women knew all too well what was going to happen, Dylan was going to steal security plans, then come up with a hybrid of the best designs. That was just who she was.

I’m going with her, Dred stated, casually caressing the concealed weapon she always carried. It could be a knife, could be a gun, it could even be throwing stars. One never knew.

I’m going to get started looking for contractors, Terra nodded, then looked at Emmaline. Em, can you-

Terra stopped midsentence. Emmaline was already walking toward the casino, rapidly punching numbers into her phone’s calculator. They all knew from experience nothing they said would be heard; she was lost in a sea of numbers and wouldn’t come back until she had whatever figures she searched for. A bona fide genius, Emma had numerous requests from Mensa asking her to join their ranks to prove it. Her friends loved her and accepted her, but they all knew Emma’s mind worked at a different level. They didn’t care how smart she was, she was part of their clique. Terra laughed at Emma’s use of a machine to run numbers. She didn’t need it. The only reason she used a calculator was because they were still amazed at how fast her brain worked and would sometimes stare at her in awe. Honestly, it freaked them all out how she could do the most complicated math in her head in a matter of seconds. That shit just wasn’t natural.

Looks like we all know what we need to do, then, Terra sighed, shaking her head at the retreating Emmaline.

Milley would be dealt with later. Any and everything else would be dealt with later.

Let no bitch try to step to us, Terra recited their parting words. A silly tradition that they started when Dredd left school her junior year. Okay, kicked out, but whatever.

Let no mother fucker try us, Emmaline yelled back at them.

It is so freaky how she does that, Dylan whispered under her breath only to be elbowed by Dredd. Let no penis ever come between us, she spoke loudly, doing her part.

And let nothing ever tear us apart, Dred finished before all four said in unison-

I wish a mother fucker would!

    Chapter One

It was always disorienting whenever Dredd left the casino. The thick sliding glass doors slowly shut cutting off the dings and clatter of the slot machines that permeated the dark windowless room. In the lobby of the motel, bright sunshine illuminated the shabby couches, worn tables and the chipped red Formica overlay of the front desk. Terra called it chic, more like thrift store fashionable. Shit cost more than they’d anticipated even after a hefty cash infusion and they were stuck renovating the areas which needed it most. It was the best they could do with the funds they had thanks to that bitch, Milley, who pulled a bait and switch and ran off with a little over two point-five million dollars of their money. They were left with this bullshit, broke down, built in the sixties and should have been demolished twenty years ago, casino. The Gulfstream.

She marched across the lobby, her heels creating a quick staccato across the marbled floor. Taller than average her shoes added to her height making her an even six-feet and she lorded this advantage over most people whenever she could. Well – except for her besties. Most of her tactics didn’t work on them since they tended to be just as crazy as she was.

Dredd stopped and inhaled before pushing through the exit that led to the patio and pool area. Guests stood behind the gate, gazing at the newly remodeled pool, hot tub and resurfaced patio area with added fire pits. The fucking renovation had cost a mint and now, damn wildlife were lounging on it like they paid for the privilege of hanging out in her motel. She pushed through the small crowd and leaned on the white vinyl fence that separated the areas. Two large fucking gators, one laying on
