About this ebook

In this riveting tale of psychological suspense, a divorce lawyer risks her career, her sanity, and her life when she falls into an illicit, all-consuming affair with her client—who becomes the primary suspect in his estranged wife’s sudden disappearance.

Young divorce lawyer Francine Day has methodically built her career doing everything right. She’s one big case away from securing her place among London’s legal elite. But when she meets her new client, Martin Joy, the natural caution that has protected Francine and fueled her rise melts away. Powerless to fight the irresistible magnetism between them, client and counsel tumble into a blistering affair that breaks every rule.

Though Martin insists his marriage is over, Francine doesn’t believe him. Certain details he’s told her don’t quite add up. Consumed with a passion she cannot control and increasingly obsessed with Martin’s relationship with his wife, Donna, Francine follows the woman one night . . . and discovers her having dinner with her supposedly soon-to-be-ex-husband.

The next morning, Francine awakens in her neighbor’s apartment with blood on her clothes and no recollection of what transpired after she spied Donna and Martin together. Then Francine receives more devastating news: Martin’s wife has vanished. That dinner was the last place anyone has seen Donna Joy alive.

Suddenly, Francine finds herself caught in a dangerous labyrinth of deception, lies, and secrets, in which one false move could lead to her undoing. What happened that night and why can’t Francine remember? Where is Donna and who is responsible for her disappearance? The further Francine goes to find answers, the tighter the net seems to draw—around her lover, herself, and the life she’s meticulously built.

This was a good book to start the year with. In having an affair with her client divorce lawyer Francine Day is committing the unforgiveable. But she hopes she can keep it hidden. That becomes dangerous ground when Martin's wife Donna disappears. Francine has been suspecting that Martin and Donna don't really want a divorce, that they are still in love, or is Donna playing around with someone else?Martin is worth tens of millions and Donna wants half his money in a divorce settlement. All sorts of thoughts go through Francine's head about why Donna has disappeared. But she can't stay away from Martin even though she suspects he has had something to do with Donna's disappearance. The blurb says this is a slick page-turner, and it is not wrong. It will keep you reading until the very end.

Really liked the cover and enjoyed the book although I was a little dubious of a lawyer having an affair with her client. That almost never happens if you are a serious lawyer with a good career ahead of you. You keep wondering what happened to the wife the whole book and the end is a little misleading but all in all a very good book. A good book club selection since there is plenty to discuss!

Let me start by saying that I love with books with silhouettes on the cover like this one. I don't know what it is but I seem to be drawn to them."In this riveting tale of psychological suspense, a divorce lawyer risks her career, her sanity, and her life when she falls into an illicit, all-consuming affair with her client-who becomes the primary suspect in his estranged wife's sudden disappearance."This was a good book. I thought the affair was a little over-the-top. She had a lot at risk and she barely knew this guy, Martin Joy, but she's smart. When she put a plan into motion, all the pieces start falling into place but it almost cost her her life.I also thought it was redundant at times.

Pretty good. Some interesting twists. Glad I read it. Also, I visit London often, so it’s fun (as am American) to read about London pubs, shopping spaces, and the outer cities that I’ve seen or visited.

Really enjoyed reading this psychological thriller, narrated by the main character. Done really well with some humour and drama.
All the characters are well developed.
Really did not see the ending, there was obviously a twist coming but I couldn't see which way it was going... Greatly appreciated

This was my second thriller and it was by far the best! I love how the plot twist happened at the height of the book and then again at the end with the “friend”, genius!

Francine Day has worked hard to build a reputation as a top London divorce lawyer. Against her better judgement she becomes romantically involved with one of her clients, Martin Joy. Fran can't fight the feelings she has for Martin and is obsessed with his relationship with his soon to be ex wife, Donna Joy. After following Donna one night, Fran awakes the next morning with no clear memory of what happened the night before. When Donna goes missing, Fran does whatever it takes to protect herself and the man she loves. This is the book I have been waiting for in the suspense genre. In recent years there have been a few books that were quite good but didn't really live up to the hype. This book hit all the right notes for me. I thought Fran was an interesting and complex character. I was never quite sure in what direction the book would go which made for an on the edge of my seat type of read. I really enjoyed watching the story unfold. This book might have a few flaws but my enjoyment was never lessened because of them. The book starts off a bit slow but definitely before page 100 I was hooked. At times watching this smart, successful woman make poor decisions based on her obsession with Martin can be difficult to read. However, in some respects that was also the strength of the book because you never really knew what could happen next. Overall, this was just one of those fun reading experiences and I definitely hope others enjoy it as much as I did. I won a free copy of this book but was under no obligation to post a review. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

The story is fast paced and kept me guessing all the way to the last chapter.Like every other mystery novel ,it has a twist in the end and it was a bit okayish end to the story. But when i pondered over the story in my head for a while,I found that there is a big loop hole in the finishing of the story and the end was exaggerated a bit.

Well written, clever story, kept me guessing, and eager to urn the page to see what would happen next. Lots of interesting characters, well developed, and satisfying ending. Did not give five stars as the main character, for being a smart lawyer, was way too naïve, trusting, and seemingly desperate to hang onto a relationship that had warning flags all over it. Still, would recommend as a good read. Will be looking for additional titles from this author.

Engrossing from the get-go. I couldn’t put it down, albeit the ending was in a bit of disarray.

A fabulously twisty psychological thriller of obsession, greed and guilt. The reader is constantly sideswiped from all directions as each unreliable character is put into the frame for the disappearance of socialite Donna Joy. Trying to untangle the knots is Fran Day, a rising star lawyer on the brink of making silk. She is representing the charismatic Martin Joy in his divorce from Donna when she goes missing, but her interest is more than professional. She too saw Donna on the night of her disappearance but has a gap in her memory from that night which makes her doubt even herself.. A string of possible suspects is lined up, each well developed and convincing enough to keep the reader guessing to the very end. A skilled debut, character driven and with a gripping plot, I'll be on the lookout for more by this talented author.
