    Chapter 1: Branding Yourself on Social Media

    Traditional advertising requires that you have a brand. You need to make sure that you know how to brand yourself, let your customers know what your business is all about and everything that goes into it. This is something that will allow them to always pick out your business and to see that it is different from your competitors. Social media branding is no different than traditional branding in that it is a direct reflection of what your business is about and what it can do for your customers.

    When you are coming up with the brand that you want to have on social media, there are a few steps that you need to take to make sure that the brand is truly what you want it to be. A good brand will be engaging to customers, will allow them to see that you are different from the competition and will put your business in the best light possible. Focus on being consistent, providing great visuals, doing it differently, and going for simplicity.

    Staying Consistent

    In everything that you do in your business, consistency is key. You need to carry this over to your social media marketing, too. Staying consistent will ensure that you are able to be the same for your customers on all platforms. One way to do this is to ensure that you have guidelines for what will be posted on social media, how the company will message customers and the way that the social media accounts will be set up.

    Even if you have four different social media accounts for your business, you will want to make sure that they are all similar and that they are all functioning together to make sure that you are getting the best opportunity out of them. There are many things that you can put onto each different account, like videos and pictures along with posts and quick blurbs, but all of the information should be tied together.

    If you are planning on having a social media manager for your business, make sure that is the only person who does the posting on the social media sites. By keeping the posts written by the same person, it will keep the voice the same and will contribute to the consistency that you need to be able to have with your social media marketing. It can be difficult for someone else to try to imitate the voice that the normal poster has even when they have a script that they are working on or something that is similar to that.

    By staying consistent, you will give your customers the chance to see that your business is stable even when it comes to social media.

    Visual Aspect

    People love to visualize the things that you have for sale or that you are doing. When you give someone something that they can see or picture in their mind, you will be able to get their attention. Reading is great and learning about a product or a service in that way will give your customers information but being able to visualize it will allow them to truly be drawn in.

    Photos are the easiest way that you can give your customers visuals. No matter what social media site you are using, you will be able to use photos to get their attention. From Facebook to YouTube and especially on Instagram, photos are what should be making up the bulk of your posts. Even if you post something that has a lot of words with it, a photo should also accompany it to make sure that your customers get the visual.

    Another, more increasingly popular option that you have on social media platforms is video. While video used to just be reserved for YouTube and other, smaller video sites, it is now becoming more widely used. Facebook and Instagram both have video options that you
