This book deserves its many five-star ratings. Like some other reviewers, I've read other books on negotiation and attended a multi-day negotiation training class, but I still learned a great deal from this book -- both specific ideas, and an overall "attitude reset" about negotiation as a human activity. Voss draws from his own experience as a hostage negotiator, but also from the business literature on negotiation, and brings it all together in a very well-organized presentation. With its real-life stories of negotiating with criminals and terrorists, followed by practical business and even consumer cases (like Voss negotiating with a car dealer), the book is fun to read. Highly recommended.

This condenses the book down into a way that is easy to go to for a quick reminder from the book. Easy to find a specific bit of info and not have to go back thru the book for that 1 or 2 sentences of that topic and you back to what you were doing.

The book taught me a number of tools and techniques to improve my negotiating skills. I have a better understanding and idea about how I would like to approach negotiation situations now.
