Emma Hale was Joseph Smith’s first wife.

Historians (and the Mormon Church) agree that Smith married to more than 30 others.

She denied to her death in 1879 that she knew of Smith’s multiple marriages.

Emma’s own words, written before her death, reveal she had lied.

This is a historically correct, first person novelette, of her life.

It is a revelation.

My father’s admonishment:

"[I believe] the whole Book of Mormon (so called) is a silly fabrication of falsehood and wickedness, got up for speculation, and with a design to dupe the credulous and unwary - and in order that its fabricators might live upon the spoils of those who swallowed the deception." Affidavit of Isaac Hale, March 20, 1834 affirmed to Charles Dimon, Justice of the Peace.

I need to write this.

I want my conscience to be as clear as possible.

If there be a God, and there is a Heaven, and if there is a celestial reuniting in Heaven, I will know by the time this is read. Or could we have been like all the other preachers, selling tickets to heaven?

This writing will be sealed, given to my eldest, and then passed to the eldest of each succeeding generation. My descendent that shall be in possession of the sealed envelope June 1, 1979 shall make this writing public.

I write from my heart, filled with guilt as it is, not to expunge the indiscretions, but to finally let the truth be told.
