About this ebook

My name is Hirah Blaze. I’m The Wretched’s lead woman on axe. From the first day I picked up a guitar, I wasn’t satisfied with being the best female guitarist or the best black female guitarist. I had to be the best fucking guitarist on the planet or it was considered a failure. The metal world could eat you alive if you didn’t know how to play and I’ve spent my entire life to make sure that never happens.

Although Sarge and Diabolical Plan had given me the initial opportunity to show off my chops, I couldn’t be what I wanted with my ex-boyfriend steering the ship. I had to be the captain of my own destiny, the one taking the lead.

Five months into being part of one of the biggest rock bands in the world and I’m still pinching myself. Me, the little Blatina goth girl from Milwaukee, along with Corey Patrick, Bryan Taylor, Nicolai Zander and the new guy on bass named Chad Stephenson.

Have I mentioned that Chad is hot as hell?

If I truly wanted to control my future, I couldn’t be derailed by gorgeous, tattooed dudes with pretty eyes and piercings.
Who was I kidding?

As long as Chad wasn’t looking for something serious we could have some fun while taking the hard rock world by storm.

This is a spinoff of The Wretched Tales with new guitarist Hirah Blaze. She's kicking ass and taking names, looking to become the metal world's newest guitar goddess!

    Prologue- Hirah

IF YOU WANT SOMETHIN’ real bad, you gotta work harder than everyone else.

My grandma was right about that. I did want to be the best damn guitarist. Not the best female guitarist or the best black female guitarist. The best fucking guitarist on the planet. Although Sarge and Diabolical Plan had given me the initial opportunity to show off my chops, I couldn’t be what I wanted to be with my ex-boyfriend steering the ship. I had to be the captain of my destiny. I had to be the one taking the lead.

Sure, Corey Patrick — the bassist for The Wretched — opened the door for me to be recognized, but it would have to be me who made people notice and stop saying, You’re good for a chick.

Those words burned me up almost as much as someone saying I was cute for a black chick. What does being black have to do with how hot I am?

And for the record, I am Pretty. Damn. Hot. Thanks for asking.

And my skin color doesn’t mean I can’t learn the tricks of the trade and perfect my craft.

Anyway, with my ex-band in the rearview mirror, now I could really prove to the masses I belonged in metal. After all, no one expects a chick to be great. So when they thought I’d suck, I smashed their low expectations and left their little jaws hitting the floor. Hard.

    Yeah, I’d earned my cred.

Still, diehard fans of The Wretched who didn’t think they’d be the same with new players needed a lot more convincing, despite Nicolai Zander’s thumbs-up and his decision that the band needed fresh blood. Or should I say the real reason: Corey forced his hand and outplayed Nicolai. I knew there was some history between the two of them, including Corey’s ex-band selling him to The Wretched for thirty Gs. When I joined, I made it a point not to get involved in past band drama. Why should I care when there was a bright future ahead for me?

Anyway, I would’ve been happy to be the second guitar because I’d seen Corey play the axe before. He blew former asshole guitarist Allen out the water without even breaking a sweat (and to be perfectly honest, that wasn’t hard to do ’cause Allen seriously sucked). And that’s not just me saying that. Even Del Vanz from Blood Reign told Nicolai that Corey was the best choice. Still Corey demanded I take lead axe, and so I did, with a smile. And dammit, I’m gonna take this opportunity by the balls and twist it around like I own it. Yep, I love a little hurt with my pleasure, so don’t get too much on my good side or my bad one. Believe you me, I’ve kicked and bitten motherfuckers’ nuts when they made me mad. Cross me and I turn into a crazy bitch at times.

Okay, back to the story. Five months into it and I’m still pinching myself over this. Me, the little black goth girl from Milwaukee, along with Corey, Bryan Taylor, Nicolai Zander and the new guy on bass named Chad Stephenson.

Have I mentioned that Chad is hot as hell? More about that later. But sleeping with anyone in any band is a very bad idea. The rumors were already flying about me and Corey. Okay, truth: So I had a little of him and his man Spescha before I joined. But the press still wants to know who warms my bed on the regular. When I say no comment, it starts a heavy stream of questions I don’t care to respond to. I mean, why is my bedroom activity more important than my playing? Although I’d would’ve loved to get my hands on a little of Chad every so often, I couldn’t get overly concerned with that now. I had plans, and they didn’t involve jumping into a hot rockstar romance. Like I told Corey, I don’t do commitments because they don’t suit my lifestyle. Give me a few fast flings and I’m good to go.

If we wanted to keep The Wretched train rolling, I had to stay focused. There’s a lot of up-and-comers in the scene right now, but truthfully none of them could hold a candle to what The Wretched brought to the table. And that’s not just because I’m a part of it. They did a lot on their own before I joined the fold. However, it got tons better when I was invited to come aboard.

Yeah, I had to admit, I am a little cocky. If I had balls and a dick, I’d use them to slap you in the face and make you take notice.

    I am Hirah Blaze.

I am the lead guitarist of The Wretched.

And this is my part of The Wretched Tales.

Blaze some trails with me and try to follow my lead!

    Chapter One - Hirah

WITH JIMI HENDRIX BLASTING in my ears, I peered out the window of the black Mercedes limousine, watching the tall buildings go by. For a small-town girl like me, these things were a rarity. Sure, Milwaukee had a few skyscrapers, but nothing like downtown Los Angeles, where the smog was thick and the hot bodies were aplenty. Truthfully, I liked the latter a lot better. That was one thing I missed about living in the Midwest. There was no heavy smog unless I went to Chicago. Clean air is good for the lungs and the soul.

Despite this, I was happy as hell to be here in Los Angeles to further my new career with The Wretched. I had just rented a new apartment, not too far from Corey and his boyfriend, Spescha.

When I told my grandma, she was proud I’d achieved so much in a short amount of time, doing what I loved. I reminded her of what she’d told me, and then added that
