      With countries in chaos and the world at war, Earth faced its darkest hour.       CHAPTER 1

      GIGANTA’S REVENGE

      Reporters and TV crews crowded the front steps of the grand Gateway City Museum of Antiquities. The tall, well-dressed director himself stood on the top step, smoothing his hair as everyone scanned the skies.

      She said she’d be here, a camera operator muttered.

      A reporter smiled over at him. She still has a couple of minutes. She’ll be here. Wonder Woman keeps her promises.

      Moments later, the reporter pointed toward the sky. See? There she is now!

      Wonder Woman dropped past Gateway City’s skyscrapers to land on the steps, next to the director. She held a magnificent shield.

      Is that it? a reporter shouted. The famous Golden Shield of Dolos?

      It is, Wonder Woman said. She held up the shield so the news photographers could get good shots of it.

      It is said that this shield — a gift to the Amazons from the god Dolos — will repel any attack its holder faces, Wonder Woman continued. But it is more valuable as a work of art than as a weapon. And so my mother, Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons of Themyscira, has agreed to loan it to this museum for a week-long exhibit celebrating world peace.

      The director stepped forward, smiling proudly. In three days, Wonder Woman will formally present the shield to the museum, he told them. The event will kick off the World Peace Charity Gala.

      * * *

      Giganta hurled her last dart at Gorilla Grodd’s picture. The dart slammed into the dartboard, right between his eyes.

      Bull’s-eye! the villain muttered. Just one more hole in a picture pocked with them. It didn’t help her get revenge on the former partner who had once landed her in jail. But it made her feel a tiny bit better.

      The TV droned on in the background of her small hideout. Something about some boring museum exhibit. She sighed and began to pull darts from the board.

      Sticking darts in Grodd’s picture wasn’t nearly as satisfying as she’d hoped it would
