This TV Tidbits book was the brainchild of my wickedly clever friend, and editor, Craig Hamrick. As a Lucy fan, I take a second seat to none. I’ve written two books about the Queen of Comedy, Lucy A to Z: The Lucille Ball Encyclopedia, and Lucy in Print. But that wasn’t enough for Craig. After writing The TVTidbits Classic Television Trivia Quiz Book, he’d enjoyed it so much, he said, Try writing a few quiz questions. You’ll have a Ball, pun intended.

And to my surprise, he was right. It was a kick going through my research files and forming the questions, and doing more research to unearth new tidbits to write about. The information included in these questions is largely available to the general public, if you know where to look. Some of the questions might involve information new to you, and in those instances where you are stumped, I hope you’ll look at them as learning experiences. But when you’re finished, you’ll be the biggest Lucy expert on your block.

I must also thank my sharp-as-nails copy editor, Saul Fischer, who got many of the questions right (but not nearly all of them, heh, heh, heh), and Albert Fisher, former director of television for the Thomas Deegan Company/New York World’s Fair 1964/1965 Corporation for contributing his thoughts about Lucy Day at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.

Finally, thanks to the fans, who make me strive to always be better at what I do.

    Introduction

Lucille Ball would probably be amazed that so much has been written about her, and that she continues to be a favorite book subject almost 15 years after her death. But her fans, including yours truly, wouldn’t be. With a super-colossal personality like Lucille Ball, there’s been so much written about her, and so much filed away for years, that it presents the possibility of an endless stream of information out there.

There have been trivia books and quiz books about I Love Lucy, but none centering on the life of Lucille Ball, and none like this one, which features nuggets (or tidbits, as I like to call them) of information about Lucy, her career, and those close to her, in every question. Boxes filled with special Lucy Tidbits are sprinkled throughout the quiz.

Even if you’re a super Lucy fan, some of the information might be entirely new to you, so don’t strain your brain too hard. The answers are only a page or two away.
