About this ebook

This volume functions as two books in one. An "astrologer's reference" it delineates Neptune's conjunctions with planets from the birth chart. Additionally since the astrologer is trained to step outside the temporal context to understand the magnitude of stories inlaid into the rhythm structures of time its perspective is valuable as mankind faces a chaotic transition. The ancient Greeks personified the planetary personae through myth. Neptune, the deceiver, presides over the final phase of the Piscean Age as deception, delusion, and duplicity threaten the great verities. How did we get here? Mankind evidences remarkable technological expertise, but have matters improved for the vast majority? Illusions born of past traditions hold minds hostage, and pit tribe against tribe on the basis of divisive belief systems. Pisces is the zodiac position where the circle meets itself and differences dissolve. Symbolized by two fish, it suggests twin perceptual portals analogous to both brain hemispheres. Two complementary "oars" are required to navigate our shared vessel progressively; otherwise we circle endlessly and history repeats. Right brain sentience invokes what is missing: the sense of inherent unity among all living beings. Mankind can no longer afford the asymmetric worldview that undermines the great balance we must now endeavor to restore.

Foreword

To those individuals who respond to astrology’s call, it’s virtually impossible to separate events from their cosmic causes. A year ago I sat down with the intention of writing a resource book for astrologers based on planetary conjunctions and how they operated in actual signs. The chapter on Pluto expanded into a book currently published by the American Federation of Astrologers. So began a serendipitous series: The Alchemy of Fusion: Planetary Pairings in Signs. Once again I felt cosmically imposed upon to share insights. This time my focus switched to Neptune, planetary ruler of the final phase of the Piscean Age. Ironically, the book is being written from my home state Florida (a Pisces state), and from the opposite shoreline of California. At the inception of this work, Florida earned its reputation for fishy business as a result of the election debacle that set the tone for subterfuge at the cusp of the new millennium. I don’t view these events as mere coincidence. On a personal note, Neptune in its orbital dance of one hundred sixty four years now directly opposes my Mars. The As above, so below equation has made its cosmic marching orders clear. I felt compelled to write this volume on Neptune so that awakened minds and souls might penetrate the veil of illusion apparently governing our world. Exposed to the truth, they might find themselves sufficiently compelled to design a new global model. Only the Truth (Aquarius/Uranus) can set us free; and only by facing it will citizens of the twenty-first century be spared the horrific lessons of previous epochs. For the Aquarian Age to emerge in earnest an ideological critical mass must be reached. It must prove strong enough to motivate citizens en masse to redesign the templates of mortal passion, purpose, and possibility.

Neptune’s Alchemy: The Double

This astrological series holds this premise as sacrosanct: that Creator designed a system of remarkable celestial checks and balances to not only maintain order in our world, but also to ensure the ongoing physical and spiritual evolution of its inhabitants. The planets function as more than cosmic clockworks. Each one embodies a Divine set of attributes. These viable aspects are reflected to a greater or lesser extent in every human being. Some are suppressed by free will, culture, or circumstance. The Ancient Greeks personified the planets by creating evocative stories. Their myths would provide mankind with a lasting awareness of humanity’s inborn kinship with cosmos. Because the lessons drawn from these myths remain contemporary, evidence suggests that the celestial themes are in fact timeless. Operating as vital essences, these archetypes live within the collective unconscious of mankind. Neptune holds an affinity with this realm. It plays a key role by invoking each celestial persona from the ocean of time according to its corresponding hour upon the heavenly stage. Twelve Divine themes link directly with the Zodiac signs and the great Ages of mankind. It’s no accident that Jesus had twelve disciples, while Abraham founded twelve tribes. The Zodiac model ideally functions as a cosmic democracy. Each sign principle is designed to check balance the others. The symmetry set among the four elements further supports this intention. It’s an ingenious system that demonstrates unity while honoring diversity.

Mankind now faces a difficult juncture in human evolution as a result of the two thousand-year plus emphasis on Neptune, ruler of the Piscean Age. Antipathy represented by the two fish swimming in opposing directions has led mass perception to critical mass. In this volume we will examine the ways by which Neptune influences the personal planets in the various signs. We will also observe how the twin fish penchant for polarity has worked to quite literally tear our world asunder. Perceptual distortion resulting from an exaggerated context of categorical references has been inculcated over the centuries, and robbed the individual of a genuine awareness of the big picture. This limited reference system has also subjected great intellects to narrow thinking. As Pisces native Albert Einstein related, No problem can be solved at the level of consciousness (or understanding) that created it. In order to mend our world and weave back together what erroneous belief systems have torn asunder (a holy mission the Hebrews term Tikkum Olum), we must see it rightly to set it rightly. Lessons drawn from astrology are critical. Its heightened vision honors all aspects of Divine diversity, and shows the intrinsic relationship between the part and the whole. The schism between good and evil has become so exaggerated that civilized nations actually believe they are killing for God! This belief must be replaced with a love for all creation. For why would Creator champion those who would destroy creation? This is one of the chief illusions Neptune has played upon throughout the Pis-cean Age.

In this volume we will examine the manners by which illusion set over the centuries has crippled our true perception of the world and ourselves. Therefore, breaking with the format of volume I, I begin volume II with Mercury to establish its alliances with Neptune and the core illusions embedded into each sign as a result of these zones of alchemy. Permeating mankind’s belief systems for centuries, so familiar have these delusions become that we take them for absolute reality and believe they concretely define our world. We must return to the powerful premise, Howsoever a man thinketh, so shall he be to begin to pierce the illusions that have held us individually (through personal chart zones cast in Neptune’s alchemy) and collectively in a self-defeating state of cognitive bondage. The question this book attempts to ask is: How can the dreamer recognize the awakened state? How do we exit the Piscean Age of oblivion to arrive at the promised Aquarian Age? How do we endeavor to shape a global Age wherein personal uniqueness, freedom of expression, and the power of joint intention are championed as worthy, life-enhancing ideals? To get there from where we stand we must courageously face those distortions associated with Neptune. In chapter II we will analyze Neptune’s fusion with Mercury to demonstrate the insidious manner by which belief systems have been molded by this god of subterfuge. In chapter III we will learn how values (Venus) and conduct (Mars) have been asymmetrically skewed to serve false belief systems. The fourth and fifth chapters will pursue the subject of personal identity by examining Neptune’s alchemy with an individual’s sun or moon. We will then move on to the shaping mechanisms of law and culture, as we examine Neptune’s conjunctions with Jupiter and Saturn in the sixth chapter. We close by exploring the question of free will as we delve into Neptune’s alchemy with Uranus in the book’s final chapter.

Although Neptune is associated with duplicity and illusion, rare gifted individuals will find ways to tap and actualize the higher potentials of this expansive, creative planetary guide. To do so they must possess a rare inner grace. How else to stand up to so nebulous a task? Some are called to embrace the fish—road less traveled by. Supportive aspects from Saturn and Uranus configured into the celestial mix will aid such a person in producing inspired works and meeting such a calling.

Within the astrological community it is widely understood that Christianity is linked to Neptune and the onset of the Piscean Age. Delivered by Jesus, the fisher of men, the concepts that would shape this epoch derived at that cusp of Ages. Jesus was born as Avatar of the Piscean Age. In our modern world the separation of church and state is a relatively new phenomenon. Centuries of tradition-based patriarchal thinking drawn directly from Piscean Age religious theology continue to directly influence the belief systems (and structures) that underlie science, law, and most academic disciplines. Conclusions drawn about the world, even those developed over time, issue from this essentially asymmetrical frame of reference. Neptune’s sign, Pisces, is defined by two fish, which likely refers to the twin portals of human perception, or both hemispheres of the brain. However one has been selectively cordoned off for most of the Piscean Age. Scientists generally agree that the left brain was designed for rational sensory delivery systems intended to render immediate data about the surrounding world. The right brain was designed for something altogether more mystical and intuitive. Through this realm of sentience the individual is equipped to tap the numinous, and know Divine Spirit in a personal manner. Such communion is incredibly empowering. Therefore persons infused with this knowledge prove exceptionally difficult to govern, especially when political and/or economic power is intentionally and jealously guarded by a self-appointed select few. By claiming that it’s a heresy punishable by death to even question this paradigm, established powers have succeeded in maintaining control over the vast majority of minds. To this day astrologers and mystics still bear the brunt of those prejudices born of fear-based executions rampant throughout the Middle Ages. This crime against humanity has never been redressed. I believe there’s ample evidence to suggest that the modern industrialized world is suffering in large measure from this absented aspect of Neptune. Mankind is languishing due to a critical loss of contact with the inner life, that of our very souls. While Neptune is associated with deception, delusion, and illusion, it also rules the dream plane. In shamanism

Neptune represents the dream-time, an exceedingly rich domain where all possibilities first exist before they assume concrete manifest form. In fascinating material channeled from Seth to Jane Roberts, dreams were awarded a special significance. A non-corporeal being, Seth explained that individuals generally use the dream plane in a selection process whereby they filter and explore life scenarios before living them out. From this realm the soul determines what it’s willing to play out on the physical plane. Carlos Casteneda’s teacher Don Juan described the dream plane as the nagual, the realm of sorcerers. Through the art of dreaming one could learn to manipulate aspects of mundane life: the tonal. According to Ancient myth, our manifest world was divided at Creation into three regions or kingdoms. Zeus was given dominion over the surface or apparent world; Pluto/Hades was granted dominion over the underworld (housing all primal instincts that exist beneath conscious cognition), and Neptune/Poseidon gained dominion over the mysterious sea kingdoms. This nebulous zone may house our soul memories. Perhaps dreams themselves reside in this nether world. Obscured beneath the surface like icebergs they reveal only a fraction of their full content to ordinary vision. Is it by mere coincidence that this three-fold division of the known world finds itself mirrored in the foremost theories psychology employs to explain human behavior? According to Freud our motivations are said to derive from the ego, super-ego, and id; or conscious, subconscious, and unconscious realms. Therefore we may reasonably wonder what happens to a society when it cripples, demeans, or distorts access to any one of these three divinely apportioned realms of sentience? The answer cannot be found when we examine our world wearing intellectually narrow lenses. The separation of academic disciplines itself distorts our thinking. Educated minds have been programmed to think in terms of divisive categorical references. Subject matter seldom interfaces in this paradigm; yet without intellectually weaving the facets back together, we cripple our view of the Gestalt. In fact it requires enormous courage to look honestly at the big picture today. For in so doing honest minds cannot deny that something has gone terribly wrong with our world. According to a Ms. Magazine article published in 1996, an estimated twenty-five million Americans now routinely use anti-depressant drugs. The purported fifteen million alcoholics, countless drug addicts, and millions more who use food to self-medicate reflect the escapist behavioral trends directly associated with Neptune. True to Neptune’s influence at this juncture, we have become a nation of addicts; and as tends to be the case with addicts, denial runs exceedingly high. The so-called war on drugs has become little more than an exercise in futility and racism. Based on the high percentage of people of color serving time in prison, America is hardly the land of the free or home of the brave for far too many these days. Two million people are currently incarcerated which turns the final chapter of the Piscean Age into a caricature of itself. Pisces rules prisons! Indeed the drug war has become a tragic play of smoke and mirrors set to distort the more dangerous drug war being perpetrated on citizens by the pharmaceutical industry. A dazzling display of television commercials daily pathologize natural human states, and then prescribe drugs for relatively benign symptoms. Stated disclaimers for side effects prove more troubling than what’s being treated! The ads resemble virtual reality theme parks where couples dance out of clocks or take off in hot air balloons on perpetually sunny days. The hypnotic nature of these advertisements begs the question, who’s really the drug pusher today? Meanwhile few ponder the relationship between the tonnage of poisons being dumped daily as fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, not to mention food additives and preservatives as a synchronous tide of epidemic cancers rises. Neptune is said to rule drugs, hospitals, prisons, and mental institutions. If we add the gaming industry which preys upon illusion, or Hollywood’s dream factory to the mix, it’s no wonder these institutions drive our economy at the final phase of the Piscean Age. But let us return for a moment to the problem of asymmetrical perception, that critical loss of contact with our very souls. If society honored both sides of the human brain I don’t believe these myriad, massive social dysfunctions would be screaming louder than canaries in the old coal mines. The detritus of deluded thinking has turned this late date Piscean Age into a wasteland focused on creating endless crises to manage. It is far more cost-effective to encourage healthy behavior, than to champion a value system based on lifestyles that effectively shoot the population in the foot. Too many of the industries that make up the American economy design products that harm. In fact, increasingly is freedom itself marketed as the right to harm self or other. Remember the cigarette ads that simulated female liberation by insinuating such status was reflected in the defiant act of smoking a certain cigarette brand? True to the law of polarity, a vast array of bureaucratic agencies is reciprocally required to regulate, arbitrate, and prosecute inevitable offenses. Another odious example is portrayed by the United States in its role as arms merchant to the world. In our nation there are a purported one billion guns on the street! In an article published on the website: http://www.commondreams.org,. "Making a Killing in Weapons Sales To the Destitute, author Cesar Chelala states that global arms sales in 1999 rose to $30.3 billion. According to figures from the U.S. Congressional Research Service, the United States strengthened its position as the biggest arms dealer. That figure represents more than a third of the world’s total, and more than all European countries combined. With this role model in mind, is it any wonder that teens periodically let loose in killing sprees? Our society maintains a high tolerance for violence glorified in video games and films. It’s downright diabolical. I’ve heard Christian theologians define evil as the power illusion wields over the rational mind. The power of semblance now casts a spell over a great many minds to evoke Shakespeare’s rhetorical question, How can thinking men (and women) think so wrongly? This cognitive sleight of hand is being leveraged on a global scale by calling a thing the opposite of what it really is. Few question this paradigm, or believe any alternative exists to what is. I remember when Black entertainers would say, that’s bad to mean that something was actually quite good. Perhaps that same psychology explains how a body politic of righteous proponents of right to life, simultaneously back capital punishment plus a U.S. foreign policy that rarely hesitates to sabotage the lives of other nations’ babies. In saner times it would not be unreasonable to expect a company like Monsanto (designers of Agent Orange) to stand accountable for the ongoing genetic damage wrought upon Vietnamese children. Instead, Monsanto was recently granted a profitable contract to design yet another equally lethal chemical polymer in response to the war on drugs currently underway in Columbia. Dangerous chemical defoliants set to destroy jungle and habitat also by their very nature leave a time bomb" of detonating poisons behind. Such chemicals operate without the capacity to differentiate who or what they harm! On our home turf public safety restraints intended to monitor the food industry are being dangerously relaxed. The stir around Fast Food Nation by Eric Scholosser explains why! While United States representatives decry safety, they also approve of meat irradiation to increase the supermarket shelf life of animal foods without calling for adequate provisions to protect public health. According to Public Citizen a ruling was recently passed that allows for the recycling of certain metal wastes taken from nuclear power plants! These dangerous items will become the toaster ovens and baby carriages of tomorrow! Laws are being routinely evaded with the net result that public safety is undermined to further the profit agendas of big business. A shameful disregard for long-term consequences to human health is becoming the rule, rather than exception. Ultimately capital is gained, while all else is lost! The core values intrinsic to quality life are everywhere being distorted, dismantled, and denied. What we call food is increasingly engineered at genetic levels to hardly constitute the genuine equivalent of nutrition. The legal argument used by agri-business to place unlabeled frankenfoods onto grocery shelves without any consumer warning boils down to one of semblance. Such food is now held to be substantially equivalent to its true counterpart. Shakespeare must have had our epoch in mind when he penned the phrase, Fair is foul, and foul is fair as Macbeth confronted his own blind ambition through the witches’ oracle. Is it peace-keeping when the United States leaves another nation’s health compromised as a result of exposure to depleted uranium or chemical weapons Mother Nature has no means by which to dismantle? There are far too many troubling things happening in our world, disguised as business as usual. Neptune thrives on illusion and routine acts that become automatic, even when no civilized society should be willing to tolerate them. Neptune, however, has had accomplices. It could not so efficiently compromise the fabric of life without help from some celestial friends. Saturn entered Pisces for a two-year stay beginning in 1994. Meanwhile Neptune was transiting Saturn’s natural domain, Capricorn. They fell into a powerful complicity and together formed the impressive arc known as mutual reception. I call this astrological event the great filibuster. It shut out other voices. In fact, the sign ofAquarius was caught in the proverbial squeeze, suggesting that the call for Truth became all too conspicuous by its absence from modern life! What evidence supports this conjecture? Seven planets in Capricorn (1991) gained for Saturn enormous dominion. Some link Saturn with the adage, What profiteth a man to gain the world and lose his soul? The love of money—and Capricorn utterly champions material success—is considered the root of all evil; and let’s face it, during this epoch greed was given a sexy facelift. The architecture of our solar system suggests by its very design a pattern of evolutionary curricula. It is the author’s contention that each soul must pass through the karmic tests (rings) of Saturn before encountering those transcendental potentials embodied by the planets outside its orbit (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto). Plainly spoken, no planetary principle alone can answer for the entirety of human purpose or possibility. Yet as the Piscean Age closes, far too many accept the limited notion that status (Saturn) equates with Divine privilege, thus affecting a veritable new take on Divine Right of King. Saturn’s role is to lock mortal attention spans into that narrow focus attendant upon perks relevant to the here and now. Humanity’s wingspan has as a result suffered. Utilizing his cloak of illusion, Neptune has successfully turned verisimilitudes into values, and witnessed the worthiest attributes of life quickly forfeited for quick paper profits. Wall Street’s current model literally plays like the band on the Titanic. In the name of wealth and prosperity this paradigm of progress undermines the very ecology required to sustain life! Earth cannot support this rabid approach much longer. Gaia is speaking to us by sending warning signs such as the dramatic weather events induced by global warming; but U.S. leaders fail to take these seriously. In fact, our leaders continue on the same suicidal track (profiting from an irresponsible fixation on fossil fuels) furthering their myopic Machiavellian agendas. For this reason alone a mass awakening is called for. Already the politics are in place to limit free speech, set enormous fines for peaceful protest, and render the courageous Anti-trust laws bravely devised at the turn of the 20th century null and void. As a result a handful of broadcast and media companies now own every major radio and television station, and in many instances regional newspapers, as well. An extreme narrowing of content has emerged under the guise of a free press. President Clinton—cosmically designed for the role with his Mars-Neptune conjunction rising in Libra—set a precedent for centrist policies. He basically redesigned American politics by drawing both political parties to the same center of gravity, a center increasingly bought and paid for by hard capital. As Ralph Nader remarked when he challenged voters to vote their dreams, both parties were now effectively morphed into one! As Pisces native Ralph Nader remarked morphed into one! The lobby system in Washington has become so overwhelming that special interest groups hold lawmakers in their pockets, influencing public policy in a remarkably transparent, unapologetic fashion. When Bush assumed the presidential office, one Washington commentator stated that a countervailing force no longer existed against the fiscally endowed muscle of corporate privilege. Meanwhile a Patriot Act has been set into law to silence debate and dissent. The trend in public education is directed towards a standardized model that will no doubt act to undermine the creative thinking of tomorrow’s citizens. Then there is the matter of the rise of religious fundamentalism. Contrary to those values cherished by the U.S. Constitution, what we are actually witnessing is a repressive, regressive set of values that suits Saturn’s reputation for limitation. Neptune’s complicity is evidenced in that so few question the erosion of their civil liberties, so long as the chants of freedom accompany flag waving. History fails to recognize that Saturn’s archetypal renditions of fear and repression ever evolving into totalitarian regimes is not nation specific. Such trespasses to human liberty cannot be merely confined to the evil empire of The Soviet Union or the death squads deployed by the Nazis. By whatever name or rationale the agenda of repression is defined, its intent is to limit free expression. When fear gains dominion the least evolved members of a society tend to promote a perception of the Deity based on an angry, jealous being who rewards violence, narrow-mindedness, and bullying behaviors. So called true believers intimidate the naive (in addition to their own followers) by espousing doctrines that promise privilege to a select few, as if our Holy God is a God of exclusion! To understand how religious ideologies have come to embrace hatred, punitive measures, and holy war (the greatest Neptunian illusion of all) we must examine the precession of equinoxes. If this material proves unfamiliar to the reader, a brief explanation will suffice. Since the time of its inception several thousand years ago, the entire Zodiac has moved 23 degrees (nearly a full sign). Remember: our solar system is also moving around a central sun. This continuous motion shifts the earth’s position relative to the fixed stars, the foundation blueprints for the original Zodiac. As a result of this movement a celestial backwash is in effect drawing the imprint of Mars-ruled Aries and its angry, jealous god archetype over the sign-field of Pisces. The result is that Mars is too much with us! The archetype of warrior has always threatened peaceful civilizations, but now this dangerously bloated deity holds ALL tribes hostage as never before. From control of global patterns of fiscal distribution, to climate instability, with genetic roulette sandwiched in between, Mars’ role is not being successfully mitigated by the other essential Divine Archetypes. In fact this reversal of Divine principle suggests the phenomena referred to by mystics as the anti-Christ in evidence. Brutal policies are being perpetrated, and shamelessly use Christ’s name as false endorsement. These aggressive tactics are more consistent with the ideological constructs of The Age of Aries. Righteous blasphemy has become so routine that it appears to naturally eclipse those compassionate ethics illumined and personified through Jesus Christ. Individuals aligned with this primitive Mars-mentality appear to be in current political ascension. Illusions of all kinds have reached critical mass. And what delusion is more potent than the one that fails to be recognized? We are a linguistic people, and as such rely on words to define and confirm our sensory view of a shared world. Under the guise of political correctness, dialogs essential to a vital democracy are quieted to a dangerous lull. Could that explain why so many appear blind to what’s before them, lost in minuets of protocol? Meanwhile the level of violence in our world is truly astounding. The weather seems to increasingly reflect this antipathy. It brings to mind the Ancient Myth that explains the changes of season. According to legend, the great earth Goddess Demetra (Ceres) who symbolizes motherhood and the fecundity of the earth grows distressed when her beloved daughter Persephone does not return home one afternoon. Demetra doesn’t know that Persephone has been abducted by Pluto. When she learns of her daughter’s fate, her first inclination is to appeal to Zeus—the purveyor of law and order—to see justice served. Instead Zeus does nothing. Demetra therefore wields her power, and alters weather events by effectively closing down the harvest season of the world. As hungry citizens unceasingly appeal to Zeus for water, food, and grain, he concedes to Demetra. He must strike up a cosmic compromise. In it he instructs Pluto that Persephone must return to her mother for half the year, at which time the great Goddess celebrates by activating the growth cycles of the natural world. During those months when

Persephone returns to Pluto, Demetra again mourns the loss of her daughter by drawing the natural world into the mock death of winter. Observing the aberrant weather patterns impacting every region of the world today I wonder if Demetra is indeed protesting the treatment of her daughters worldwide. Her outrage might speak for the sex-trade industry specializing in pre-pubescent females of South East Asia. Or perhaps she is sending droughts and floods to protest the sinister cultural rite of clitorectomy in West Africa. Perhaps dire weather conditions come in response to those thousands of unborn female fetuses aborted in India where girls are considered worthless. Why link these facets of discussion with Neptune? The two fish represented by the sign of Venus’ exaltation call for a sacred balance between both genders. Roles have been artificially polarized by the false belief systems already mentioned. The Divine aspects attributable to BOTH males and females must be reconciled. This requires a shared reverence for both sides of Creation: the great Yin and Yang. The two celestial powers represent the twin sides of the life force. They signify an eternal dance represented by the structure of DNA’s double helix, life’s own binary equation. From their union does all life derive, and without it do all living beings decline. This understanding will be expanded upon in chapter three of this text. The devaluation of feminine intuitive acumen (along with the voices of the Indigenous from many continents) has distorted genuine spirituality in our world. Policies and practices that deprive mankind of access to the right brain portal condemn the world to an asymmetrical vision based solely on the left brain masculine view. So-called logic has been navigating mankind’s collective vessel across the centuries. Without a second oar in the water, humanity’s boat circles endlessly. As a result a needlessly bloody history continues to repeat. What a waste, especially now as the lion’s share of global resources is being directed at weapon’s design, production, deployment, and (in the case of spent or effete supplies) purportedly safe storage! Mars has trampled over the world’s
