About this ebook

In Colossians 2:8, Paul writes, Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Many churches today have turned to the traditions of men instead of God, causing complacency and vanity. This is an issue that needs to be addressed if Christians are to return righteousness to the church.

Author D. Warren Hasbrouck tackles this important subject in The Brides Missing Gifts. Hasbrouck explores why the church is suffering and how it is imperative to turn to apostolic and prophetic authority to build up the body of Christ. Through short, easy-to-understand chapters, he discusses the nature of God, the foundation of the church, and the role of the apostles.

In addition, Hasbrouck shares his personal correspondence with a local church about these same issues, offering a concrete example of how we must put Jesus Christ back at the head of the church. By digging deep into the Scriptures and focusing on Gods plan for His body of believers, Christians can remove division and reclaim unity in Christ.

    PRAYER FOR THIS BOOK

Father, in the name of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I come before you as your servant and ask that you direct me by the power of your Holy Spirit and that your words and your words alone are used in bringing forth this book. I pray that through this, the Bride of Christ be made more holy and acceptable unto you; Not that any man be glorified, but you and you alone.

Father, I believe Your Spirit spoke to me and has directed me to put letters that you have had me write, and those received, into a book. I can safely say this because you and I both know that the things that have been written have been by you because without you, no T would be crossed or I dotted.

Lord, I thank You for the men of God that you have put in my path to help keep me on course, lifting me up in prayer as I seek to do Your will and Your will alone. Father as I continue on this path I pray for a special anointing over this work and that Your Holy Spirit will speak and minister to those who read Your Words. May you be glorified and praised forever and ever. Amen.

    PREFACE

Within the pages of this book are letters I wrote, prompted by the Holy Spirit, sent to two churches and the response received back from one.

There are two men of God that the Lord has put in my life. The first one is Darrell Niswander. Not only a precious brother in Christ, but I am honored and blessed to be able to call him friend for over 15 years. He and I served together for several years in the church we attended until the Lord moved us to other states. Over the years, we have continued an ongoing communication and fellowship. The second is Ben Piper, a close friend to Darrell. Ben has become a tremendous blessing and joy to have as a brother in Christ. I greatly value his friendship and knowledge of the scriptures. We have shared together the things of God on a weekly basis and look forward to the day that the Lord will bless us both by being able to meet face to face. They have a deep love for our Heavenly Father and are always seeking His will. Knowing these two men, as to whom they are in Christ, and the calling that is on each of them is like having two precious gems. I want to not only thank God for them, but to thank them for their prayers, encouragement and deep friendship.

The Word of God instructs us to seek the counsel of the Godly. This book and the letters referenced here were sent to Darrell and Ben for review of sound doctrine, and whether it ministered to their spirit (being of one accord). Other fine men and women of God consulted also bear witness to the biblical truth shared herein.

    CHAPTER ONE

    SETTING THE STAGE

In this chapter I will share how I believe God had prompted me to write and why.

My wife, children, and I moved to the state of Washington in the year 2000 and between that time and up until 2007 we had been seeking a church where God wanted us to fellowship. It was very difficult for us to find one. It was as though we were in a desert, thirsty for the move of God’s Holy Spirit in the churches we visited. In 2005, we were attending a church, but felt God wanted us somewhere else.

Late in 2006, the Spirit of the Lord started moving in me in such a way that when I went to bed and laid there, He would prompt me to get up and write a word He put in my spirit. Later I shared these words with Darrell to see if these were my imagination or if I was hearing from the Spirit of the Lord. Darrell told me that a lot of what the Holy Spirit was giving me was very similar to what Ben was releasing to churches concerning church government. He went on to explain that he had known Ben since Darrell’s father had pastored a church in the 60’s. Darrell asked if he could send copies of what the Holy Spirit gave me to share with Ben so that Ben could see if it ministered to his spirit as well. From that point on we have been blessed to share many things of God together.

Around this time God prompted me to start seeking out churches on the internet. I found one that looked quite interesting and seem to have what we were looking for. But when I brought up their statement of faith and began reading it, I found there were some things that were questionable. I continued seeking for other churches, and for some time after, I kept being drawn back to reading their Statement of Faith. As I read it, it kept stirring my spirit to the point that I kept getting a prompting from the Holy Spirit, Write them, write them.

Of course, I kept saying, what do you mean, write them? One, I don’t know what to write, two, I am not a writer, and three, they aren’t going to listen to me! Who am I? Besides I am not any bible scholar and I don’t have any type of education in the bible!

It is rather pointless to argue with the Holy Spirit when He wants you to do something. He has the unique ability to win every time! By His grace and mercy He built my confidence by reminding me that if He could use a donkey to speak through, He could surely use me, (Definitely a morale builder!) I told the Lord that if he wanted me to do this it would have to be His words, and His alone, for there is no way I could do it on my own.

After writing the letter I shared it with Darrell and Ben so they could pray, seek God and see if it ministered to their spirits as well. Later, they both agreed the letter was penned by the Spirit of God and not by me. I then mailed it out to the church God had burdened me and waited for their response.

Sometime after that my wife and I were blessed by finding a church that we both agreed God had directed us to fellowship. We have been there ever since.

A few months after sending the letter to the local church, Ben mentioned a pastor, whom I will refer to as Pastor Bill. Ben had been writing to him and sharing his information on church government. In one of my phone conversations with Ben, he suggested writing this pastor and sharing the letter with him. So, I wrote him and received a nice letter back from Pastor Bill.

Shortly after writing Pastor Bill, Ben sent away for additional copies of, A Handbook of New Testament Order for New Testament Churches from Pastor Bill. Ben believed, from having an older copy of this booklet, that we would like to read it. Ben, upon receiving the newer copies, found that some of the information had been changed. Rather upset, he informed us there were changes and he questioned sending them out to us. Thankfully, he did.

It brought about digging deeper into the Word and seeking God and His will for the Church by all of us, including Ben. This also brought about my writing to Pastor Bill a few times and later, led me to write this book.

The purpose of this book is not intended to be critical, but, by the direction of God’s Holy Spirit, help us have a deeper understanding of the importance of God’s sovereignty being established in His Church by not hindering His Spirit.

There are those that are seeking God’s glory, God’s Power, God’s Holy Spirit. But are we truly seeking to have His sovereignty
