About this ebook

On the Wings of a Dove is a compilation of poems designed to stimulate an appreciation for the simple blessings we oft times take for granted because of the havoc and chaos that surrounds us in our daily lives here on this earth.

The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit and represents simplicity, gentleness, divine guidance, marital affection, and the deepest kind of peace. Its wings exemplify the Love of God and Gods forgiveness. The doves unadorned and striking white image provides us with an ever-present reminder that there is always hope when there is faith in our Heavenly Father.

The poetry within On the Wings of a Dove are intended to provide inspiration and support as an arsenal against troubling times and difficult situations, to produce a guiding light on darkened day, and to give one the solace and belief that our Heavenly Father loves each of us, watches over us, and is preparing our place within His Kingdom.

Terry Lawrence

Terry Lawrence began his journey of life in northeastern Ohio in a charming small town along the Ohio River. After his graduation from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio and armed with several degrees in business, his 40-year career expedition transported him to Washington, D.C., Baltimore MD, St. Petersburg FL, Los Angeles CA, Las Vegas NV, and Athens, Greece. It wasn’t until 2008 Terry experienced an explosion of his creative prowess when he launched his own poetry website and published his first book, Journey of Life. This book, The Right Path Taken, is his second in a planned series that archives the various dimensions of love relative to his own personal relationship with God, friends, and especially his own life partner. Because of the love he discovered, with the intervention of God, coupled with his new surroundings living in Vancouver WA, nestled in the beautiful and awe-inspiring Northwest, Terry encountered a life-changing transformation where he was able to take the right path of life. A lighted path that radiated an appreciation for God, life, character, righteousness, and, more than anything else, love.

    The Dove

On the Wings of a Dove

I came upon a dove of white

    along a broken trail

I felt the wind from its flight

    and sensed my soul prevail.

    Eerie walk round every bend

    desolate and bare

choosing then my life to end

    no answer to my prayer.

    Windswept clouds, darkened sky

    and thunder clamored strong

    elements the dove defied

    convinced my heart was wrong.

Descending on a ray of sun

    beaming through each cloud

    turbulent the skies were none

    and silenced thunder loud.

Upon a fence the dove alight

    and stared into my face

    deep inside my soul invite

    each worry did erase.

I knew it then this bird of love

    sitting on its post

was sent by God from Above

    depicting Holy Ghost.

All my worries left that day

    inconsequential things

    burdened life had went away

    upon the dove its wings.

    A Palm Upon the Willow

I sat beneath the willow tree and gazed upon its leaf

pondered what would set me free and bring to me relief.

I felt the pain within my heart with sorrow oozing out

thought my life to then depart this world to be without.

Sinister the tree appeared as if a darkened stare

a misty fog that I feared enhancing my despair.

I felt its roots within the ground as seeking to control

grasping me from all around and searching for my soul.

Silently, I said a prayer, as the wind did calm

a gentle breeze unaware presented leaf of palm.

Upon my chest the leaf did land that brought to me release

of the thoughts that I had planned and filled my heart with peace.

Victory, a voice had said, from within the wind

"sufferings you shall shed, forgiving times you’ve sinned."

Take this palm, the voice explained, "and feel within its gift

for all your troubles shall now be waned and your life will shift".

"Triumph shall be yours this day, a life to ne’er compare

I shall not to you betray, for what you ask in prayer,"

humbled by of each the word, as spoken by this voice

and how the words my spirit stirred, and to my heart rejoice.

The willow tree did not appear powerful as before

nor did I feel of any fear, not then or anymore

I clutched the palm within my hand and looked into the sky

I came to then to understand and never question why.

Never to feel again, a weeping grief or strange

but to know of always when, of things I cannot change

and to know and to feel, my life is full with love

because a voice that was so real that came from Him Above.

    One But Helped

There was a man on the street begging a lending hand

asking for some food to eat while all just left him strand.

I saw a man dressed so well who looked and even stared

held his nose from reeking smell and knew he didn’t care.

I watched a lady looking down while brushing away some dust

from her coat from her gown and stared in such disgust.

I peered a man from out his car with wealth as more than gold

but as he lit his long cigar he looked and merely strolled.

I even saw a cop pass by and poke the man his side

ridiculed and asked him why he had to there reside.

I viewed so many people who would stop and simply say

Did they let you out the zoo?, then grin and walk away.

It was cold upon this night with rain down from the sky

I watched so much that wasn’t right, the man began to cry

The more the tears that he had shed the more of those who would

say to him he should be dead because of nothing good.

I saw the man his head had bowed as if he was in prayer

Soiled soaking wet his shroud that added his despair

grungy beard, hair so long, so filthy was his skin

I knew again that this was wrong, assuredly a sin.

Passed by many on this night who had the means afford

disgusted by of him their sight and chose the man ignored

extended hands I saw him do while often on his knees

but they all just looked him through, laughing at his pleas.

My mind was raged, my heart the same of what I saw so much

I walked across the street in shame, my hand his head to touch

his rose his head, his eyes to mine, I felt his pain inside

I only had of dollars ninem and gave to him, he cried.

I wish I had more to give, I said with swollen eyes

and wished him well his life to live, as he began to rise

Not for me but for you, my son, he spoke revered

I closed my eyes for seconds few, the man had disappeared.

    A Whisper in the Night

It was a whisper in the night

    that I could not acquaint

there was no one in my sight

and so the words were feint.

I felt as if someone near

    as I looked about

    fended off shades of fear

    though elevated doubt.

Your worries child belong to me,

    the murmur spoke and said,

and though in me you cannot see

    trust in me instead".

"I will provide your joy within

    and comfort all your strife,

I will keep you free from sin

    with everlasting life."

"All I ask is faith be yours

    for Him and Me Above

    as I will open doors

and fill your life with love."

My heart was pounding but not in fear

    my spirit pulled toward

as I wiped a moistened tear

    the whisper was my Lord.

I felt His presence all around

    with whispers to console

I looked within and there I found

    my Jesus in my soul.

Those whispers in the dark that night

    amidst a light so dim

lifted burden no more a plight

    my worries gave to Him.

    Guided by His Love

As we walk the road of life

and oft times tread off track

    we can always be reassured

His Hand is on our back.

    Sometimes we’ll
