About The Author
Dedications
Are You My Teacher is dedicated to my mother who passed away in 2000.
It was my mother who stood on the front porch of our two bedroom home, hands cuffed together, head bowed, and heart lifted up to God in prayer for the child that she was convinced He had called to teach. To the great woman who stared into my eyes and said that all things are possible if I would only believe. To my mother who followed the dream until her sweet death. I am my mother’s dream and prayer.
I would also like to dedicate this book to my daughter who was born during my college career. To the little girl who sat up at night and gazed up at me as I studied. I read a book, she read a book. To the little girl who was exposed to college campuses before she was enrolled in kindergarten. To the young lady who is now my inspiration. I thank you.
Love.
Personal Mission Statement
It is my personal mission to be the best, most productive, committed individual in all endeavors.
My Mission As A Teacher
It is my personal mission and vow as a teacher to instill in each child confidence, competence, and conviction.
Are You My Teacher?
Are you my teacher or the classroom preacher,
That lectures each lesson making no big impression?
Just pacing and sipping your coffee and coke,
Not teaching a lesson, but simply blowing smoke.
Are you my teacher or the cell phone queen,
Walking the halls tracking down your king?
Are you my teacher, my counselor, or sitter?
I cannot tell cause you’re always bitter.
You holler and scream, dispel my dream;
I lose all hope, now how do I cope
With sitting all day having time to play,
I just want to know, is this the way?
Are you my teacher, frustrated and stressed?
No matter what happens you are still depressed.
Waiting on time for you to retire, I’m sitting back
With no time to admire the teacher who could instill
So much in me, yet, you’re biding time
Just wanting to be free.
Please help me in this critical time,
You can shape my mind. I’m in a bind.
Share with me what you have learned,
Help me teacher, show some concern.
You were born to teach, share what you know,
Don’t turn your back, I want to grow.
You are the only book that many of us will read,
All you have to do is just plant the seed.
Don’t turn your back on those in need,
We beg of you for knowledge indeed.
I’m crying out, I don’t know what to do,
A tiny sprout just needing you.
You were born to teach, share what you know,
Don’t turn your back, I want to grow.

Teacher Portrayals of the Now and Then
Teachers’ Familiar Sayings
I just want to teach.
I can’t get anything done.
Too much paperwork!
Too many meetings!
There’s not enough time in a day.
They don’t pay me enough for this!
