STEADFASTNESS
"HELLO, YES, this is Charley Butterworth. Oh, yes, you’re the company our son David is working with. No, David isn’t here right now. Is there something I could help you with? David seems to really enjoy working with your company. From our perspective, he has really blossomed.
I think Mr. Anderson, that it would be best if you spoke to David about any further development. He has reached that stage in his development, where he is more than able to determine what goals to set for himself. He should be home within the hour. Would you want him to call you so you can speak to him yourself? That’s fine. I’ll tell him you called".
The relationship David has maintained with this computer service has certainly proved to be of benefit in so many different ways. Not only has David displayed tremendous skill in computer development, but his personal development has been noteworthy as well. It will be interesting to learn what Mr. Anderson and his colleagues have in mind for David.
Both Charley and Sally continually offer praise and thanksgiving to God for the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of their son.
David continues to be of significant support to the youth program at Glad Tidings as well. The relationship that has developed with David and the youth pastor has certainly provided another dimension of growth for David.
Charley did not waste any time to inform David of the call from the computer company. Sally and Charley sat eagerly waiting for the outcome of that call.
Sally continues to be very entrenched in providing leadership in the lady’s group. Even though it is more difficult to maintain her physical presence at each meeting, she is sure that after the birth of the baby, she will be able to resume her high level of involvement.
The Butterworth family is eagerly awaiting the birth of this new baby. They had each agreed that they would not seek to know the sex of the baby before its birth. The three of them are hoping however that they would be blessed with a girl, but they were more concerned with the health of both mother and baby than with what sex the baby was.
There have been no concerns with the pregnancy. Both Charley and David have given Sally such a high degree of attention, that one time Sally remarked that she had received such great care, that she should be having a baby more often. She said that with a big smile and reassured them both, that she was thankful for the care she receives even when she isn’t carrying a baby.
Eternal Perspective continues to develop, and much to Charley’s delight and thanksgiving to God, there is close adherence to consistency as it relates to the care of the individuals being served, as well as to staff morale.
Four residential homes have been established over time, and Charley again, is quick to acknowledge the guidance and intervention of the Holy Spirit every step of the way. To quote the expression Charley continues to give when referring to developments; God is performing above and beyond anything he has thought of or imagined
. Charley is extremely mindful of the help and support he continues to receive every step of the way.
During times when Charley has been able to ‘put the brakes on’ and reflect, he has taken note of everything that has and is taking place in his life, and becomes overwhelmed with thanksgiving to God. To think that God would come-along-side and reveal Himself as the Originator and Provider in every step of development, continues to –as has been said numerous times- be overwhelming.
Once again, Charley exclaims, What next?
David almost ran into the living-room to tell his parents the content of the conversation with Mr. Anderson. They want me to head-up the department for giving technical support. I would still continue to create programs, but I would be the resource person in the event of a problem that needed more input and direction
. As David shared this news with his parents, his excitement was very hard for him to conceal.
Charley expressed his delight in hearing the news, but asked David what he was going to do with his own efforts in developing broader computer services. He went on to ask if he had made a decision.
David stated very clearly that he had not decided, and that he wanted to spend time in prayer to find out what God would have him do.
Charley glanced at Sally, and saw her appreciation of hearing David’s desire to seek God. This was certainly welcome news.
David concluded by stating he was to get back to the computer people by the end of the week. That gave him about four days to come to a decision. He asked his mom and dad to pray with him in this matter as well.
There doesn’t seem to be any let-up in the explosion of intervention by God. Here David is on the verge of expanding his computer involvement. Sally is about to give birth to a baby, and Eternal Perspective continues to grow. The Bible class continues to develop, and Pastor Cornwall is very pleased with the support he receives from the Butterworth family.
At any given time during the consistent family devotions they engage in, you will hear notes of thanksgiving and praise to God for all He has and is doing. The acknowledgement that the One they serve, continues to do above and beyond all they think or imagine, encourages each of them to trust God that much more.
Even though there have been no concerns with the pregnancy, Sally when left alone, being the intuitive person she is, has struggled with thoughts of ‘yesteryears’. She would never want Charley to know she has entertained thoughts of what went on before. Fortunately or unfortunately – depending on your point of reference – she has not been able to shield her husband and son from this knowledge. Charley in particular, asked her what it was that was bothering her. It turned out David as well sensed something eating away at his mother. How was she to tell them both of what she was struggling with, without causing serious negative repercussions? Everything had been coming together so well since they had re-located, and since they had received help and guidance from their former pastor, Pastor Bailey. She didn’t want to disrupt this reality, but she knew she had to put it on the ‘table of reflection’. Perhaps it was the result of the pregnancy. She didn’t have these feelings when she was carrying David. Of course things were different than. There wasn’t the interaction with Charley or the intervention of Pastor Bailey before David was born. These questions and assessment continued to plague her. The more she thought of the ‘why’ and the more she tried to rationalize, it became clear she had to share this with Charley. Sally wasn’t as convinced she had to bring David into this, at least at this point, but she definitely had to speak with Charley.
There was no evidence of being ‘put down’ as she began to unburden her heart to her husband. The relationship
