About this ebook

The beginning of this book starts with John the Baptist asking a Question in Matthew 11:3-5, art thou he that should come, or do we look for another? When John the Baptist asked this question he was in prison hearing news about Jesus and his fame throughout the region. From then until now people all over the world are looking for and expecting great light from church leadership, just like the people described in Capernaum. Scripture notes that these people of Zabulon and Naphthalim were sitting in darkness when they saw a great light. Great leaders always stand out and are easily identified. This book details seven qualifying criteria for leadership and the central thought is based on Johns question. It is important that people know their leaders are sanctioned by God. Our Lord Jesus has set the example, therefore we ask Are you the one or should we look for another?

    INTRODUCTION

Sometimes at our lowest point in life, God chooses to speak to us, and ask us to do some of the most seemingly unreasonable things. This book was born out of such a situation.

In 1997 the Lord began to deal with me about my leadership as a Pastor, preacher and Musician. God told me to tell members of my Ministry that it was time for a tearing down and rebuilding of the Ministry and that it has to start with me. I did not know, at the time, what direction the Lord was taking me. I experienced a great loss of friends and followers. I also experienced great tribulation and hardship like never before. In the midst of the tribulation and hardship God told me to write this book at which time the only follower I had was my wife.

I began writing this book in 1998 based on everything I knew, everything I had seen and everything I had learned when I became a Pastor in 1977.

God spoke to me about seven qualifications for leaders in the church: (1) Being Born Again; (2) Being Baptized (Water/Holy Ghost & Fire); (3) Being Educated in Leadership; (4) Being Called to Leadership; (5) Being Anointed to Leadership; (6) Being Appointed to Leadership; (7) Being Obedient in Leadership.

Are You the One is divided into two parts. Part one lays the foundation and provides the background for why good leadership is important and necessary. Part two describes the characteristic qualities of a good leader.

    PART I

    LAYING THE FOUNDATION

    CHAPTER 1

    JESUS’ MINISTRY

    (Matthew 11:3,4,5)

. . . Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

We must be living in a time when signs and wonders (in the work of the kingdom) do not matter to God as much as they did in Jesus’ time or perhaps the church has just gotten away from the things that Christ had commanded the believers to do. (John 14:12 and Mark 16:16-18).

In the Gospel of Matthew, the 11th chapter and the 12th verse it states, and from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent taketh it by force. Jesus made this statement because the church had no power to defend itself, and the devil being the prince of the power of the air, the prince of darkness, and also the prince of this world (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11), went forth reaping havoc in the kingdom by stealing, killing and destroying (John 10:10). But in 1st John 3:8 and Acts 10:38, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Did Jesus completely destroy all the works of the devil and what exactly did He do to satan? According to the scriptures, Jesus descended first which indicates he had some business to take care of before ascended on the right hand of the Father (Eph. 4: 9, 10). So between verses 9 and 10 Jesus did something, He defeated satan. In the book of Colossians, 2nd chapter and 15th verse it states, . . . having spoiled principalities and powers, he (Jesus) made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

This scripture does not indicate that Jesus destroyed the devil but it does indicate that He disabled satan of what power he (satan) had. What power did satan have? In the beginning of this chapter, the scripture states, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent taketh it by force, this indicates that the devil had power to inflict violence on the kingdom of heaven, and was taking whatever he wanted by force. The greater part of Satan’s power or authority came by him exercising his Deuteronomy. 28:15 rights which states, . . . but it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day: that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee. This scripture goes on to list all the curses which satan himself can execute or carry out among all non-keepers of the law.

The curses are three fold: Poverty, sickness and death Also called The Curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13). So Israel not only had to hearken (hear) the law, but they also had to observe to do whatever the law said; if not, satan had the God given allowance to kill, steal and destroy. Bringing us to the understanding of why the kingdom was suffering violence. Jesus had to do three powerful and significant things; defeated death, hell and the grave (I Cor. 15:55-57). The 1st significant thing he did was to defeat death by taking away the sting or torment and stripped the grave of its resistance of resurrection
