Mary Barrett
Mary's stories are taken from lessons she has been taught in life about the goodness of God. Her past struggles with an eating disorder inspired her to reach out with a message of hope that recovery is possible through faith. That time period of a personal battle brought about personal growth, physical healing, and a new spiritual awareness. The experiences that she and her family went through resulted in the blessing of starting her writing career. Mary published her first magazine article April 2006 and published her first book in January 2008,titled, How a Mess Became A Message. Her passion is speaking about what God can do in a life. Mary uses the Bible as a daily tool and applies its teachings to her life. She has studied the Bible in seminary level classes since 2001 and is currently attending the Hatfield Bible Seminary Leap Education program. Small group Bible studies also have been apart of her background since 1993;providing her with the knowledge and Biblical understanding to write her devotions and reflective studies. Mary has been married to her husband Tom since the age of 19. Together they have been blessed with a son and two daughters. The Barrett family lives in North Wales, Pennsylvania. Some of the hobbies they enjoy are camping in their RV, swimming, going to the beach, and visiting loved ones. Currently, Mary is involved in the " Mother in Love" conference series, based on her devotional books. She and her husband Tom are planting the seeds for a ministry they pray God will grow, named Titus 11:1 Ministries. The vision is to bring together all who seek a relationship with Lord using a variety of outreach methods. Please feel invited to stay connected with the publications and speaking engagements at www.motherinlove.net.

Galatians 5:22 (NLT) – But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, He will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Come study and sift through the rich soil that is God’s Word. Through authentic examples from everyday life, you will be able to share why experiencing a life alive in the Spirit is for everyone, no matter where you are in your journey. Won’t you join in and begin to sow your spiritual seeds? Allow them into your heart and feel them take root.
Don’t let your fruit wither on the vine! The good things in life really are free and ours for the taking. God has made a way that offers us all a free gift, and all we need to do is accept it! Once we taste the ripened fruit offered by Jesus, the True Vine of Life, we are indeed free to produce a full harvest of mature crops in our lives that will grow into a bounty of blessings. Consider being forever enriched by the nurturing elements of a Spirit filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
We are going to get dirty and dig deep, so roll up those sleeves, put on those worn overalls, pull out that funny straw hat, grab a watering can to gather the showers from God’s Word, and let’s start preparing the field and planting the seeds that will guide our lives as God’s light shines on them.
What are you waiting for? This is the perfect time to start. This could be the fruit that your body has been longing to try and the nourishment that your heart has been craving. Come taste and see that the Lord is good!
(Ps. 34:8).
Take a moment each day to water the soil of your soul with the Living Water that is everlasting, so that the dry patches of your existence are transformed into a rich, abundant, and deeply rooted life.
* The New Living Translation (NLT) version of the Bible is referenced throughout the book.
Introduction
Sometimes our lives can seem out of control. We are out of focus, overwhelmed by burnout, and overextended by distracting tasks that do not nourish us. We continue wasting the precious fuel of our bodies on self
advancement, self
desires, and self
satisfaction.
For those of you who are racing frantically along, desperate to accomplish one more great thing to make your mark on the world, the question is a simple one. Who and what controls your life and dictates your path? Is it self? Is it career choice? Is it society’s views? Is it the pursuit of money and prosperity? Is it the material lusts of this world? Once you have discovered what it is that you value, you will come to understand what motivates your choices.
To experience true contentment and fulfillment, I invite you to try placing a new source at the center of your life. Focus your energy on God and tap into the awesome power of the Holy Spirit. If you allow the Holy Spirit to direct your life, the path ahead will not only become clearer, easier, and more productive, but it will give you more freedom, security and positive outcomes than you could ever achieve on your own.
Format of Devotions
• At the end of each chapter is a section called Questions to Encourage Growth, where you will be given an opportunity to reflect your own experiences. The purpose of this is to trigger a better understanding of how your life is currently being lived out. Freely write in the space provided in this section.
• As a follow-up to Questions to Encourage Growth, the Scripture to Plant section is designed to provide more scriptures and passages of the Bible for you to contemplate. Use the suggested readings as part of your quiet time to become better acquainted with God’s Word and the meaning it holds for you.
• A final tool for you to use is found at the back of the book, where there are plenty of pages to record all the God moments, blessings and encouraging thoughts that you experience along your Spirit-led journey.
Preface
Longing For True Belonging
Does your life feel exposed and fragile? Are you barely clinging on to the support of a limb that you are desperately trying not to fall from? Do you struggle to add strength to the parts of your life that are about to collapse under the weight of your burdens? Do you feel the need for a change and yearn to experience more of what God has to offer? Is your life longing for true belonging?
As I pondered these questions, I was moved by a desire to share the changes that occurred in my life when I let the spirit of Christ enter into it. The nature and potential of personal growth can be expressed through the telling of real-life stories. Each story that is shared in this book beautifully illustrates what happens when a life is turned toward Christ. As you read these true tales, you will hopefully be encouraged to let the old spirit that controlled your thinking be replaced with a new and positive one—the light of Christ. A life that has been touched by the spirit of Christ will be deeply enhanced and changed for the better.
Once our lives have become intertwined with the presence of the Holy Spirit, we are the recipients of nine precious seeds
or spiritual gifts that are ours to plant and till in the garden of our heart. Each seed has a special purpose in our lives. We will explore each one in turn and experience the value that each offers us. As these delicate seeds are integrated into our lives, we become forever connected to the strong roots of the Holy Spirit and the true vine that will never fail us.
If you are feeling excited and curious and desiring to learn more, I invite you to turn the page and let the Holy Spirit begin to enliven your world. Remember, it does not matter how weak the limb you are
