About this ebook

Who speaks for the "Body of Christ" collectively (all born again believers--worldwide)? Many denominations and large bodies of believers or Christians (conventions), differ and disagree on many topics chosen for discussion in this book (women in the ministry, the bible, etc.). Who is correct? Who should one believe? God is not divided? The Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit work together harmoniously (as one)! Because of mans/womans interpretation of scriptures, the "Body of Christ" (all born again believers), is divided.

We, "The Body of Christ", must harmonize our differences so that we may be able to work together harmoniously and bring in a great harvest. Many of the subjects of debate among born again believers can be "tabled" or set aside. The gospel (salvation) is very simple! (That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9) God did not complicate salvation! Jesus chose "unlearned" (by mans standards) fisherman to spread the gospel story! Jesus the Christ can be accepted in the heart anywhere, any hour of the day or night!

This book is entitled "Hodge Podge" (mixture) because of the diverse topics chosen for discussion.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my dad, Rev. Price Harris; my son, Christopher; my daughter, Felicia; in loving memory of my darling mother, Mary Alice Harris; and The Body of Christ.

This book is also dedicated to the devoted pastors, priests, rabbis, ministers, missionaries, and the like-all who are laboring in the vineyard of life in spite of differences!

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ…And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.

    (Ephesians 1:3, 22-23)

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.

    About The Author

    Introduction

My cup runneth over! Therefore, I have decided to empty it in the form of a book entitled Hodge Podge (mixture of topics). My entire life has been centered around the study of the Bible and the local church and now that I am spiritually mature, I would like to write about topics of debate among the Body of Christ from a scriptural perspective.

Neither man nor woman are the authority on any subject, God is; therefore, God’s guidance and direction must be sought regarding our individual lives but we can share with others knowledge and experiences. There are no yes or no or right or wrong answers to any of the topics chosen for discussion. Also, this book is not written to persuade or influence because we all worship and believe differently. God is diverse! God chose to make us different. Just as flowers, we come in all colors, sizes, and shapes.

It is up to us as individuals to seek to know God. We can share, but why take another’s word when we have the privilege, each of us, of getting to know God personally? Many in the Body of Christ and the local church do not like change, and change is what caused the death of Jesus and many of his followers. Many have the we never did it this way before mentality; however, nothing remains stagnant (motionless).

To compete, fast-food chains are always adding new and improved items to their menu to attract customers and business people, and are always trying to find out what the public likes and dislikes and cater accordingly. Is the Body of Christ broadening its perspective in order to seek and to save the lost and to save our youth from destruction? We can’t teach unless we can draw.

For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us (Acts 6:14). (Author’s Note: Stephen, being accused before his death-stoning).

This book will be divided into two parts.

Topics discussed in Part I are:

    (1) Marriage and the Family

    (2) Family Problems

    (3) The Christian Marriage

    (4) Choosing a Mate

    (5) God’s Laws Are for Our Own Protection

    (6) Divorce

    (7) The Perfect Mate

    (8) Christian Entertainment

    (9) The Holy Spirit

    (10) Who Keeps the Heavenly Records?

    (11) Dress for Success

    (12) God’s Prosperity

    (13) Conclusion

    Part II-Higher Ground

    (1) The Bible

    (2) The Church

    (3) Women in the Ministry

    (4) Can Salvation Be Taken Away

    (5) Conclusion

    (6) Planning for the Journey

There was a little city, and a few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city: yet no man remembered that same poor man. Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

    (Ecclesiastes 9:14-16)

Invitation to Discipleship - The Greatest Invitation Ever Extended

The door of the church is open to the world.

    God’s Salvation Plan:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

    (Romans 10:9)

There is no power on earth-no man, woman, or child that can hinder one from coming to Christ. Jesus can be accepted silently in the heart anywhere, any hour of the day, in spite of what one has done.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

    (John 1:12-13)

    Marriage and the Family

Marriage and the family will be discussed from two perspectives-the earthly marriage and the heavenly marriage-because the relationship between God and Israel and Jesus and The Body of Christ (all born again believers) is patterned after a marital relationship between a husband and a wife.

God ordained marriage and from that relationship, the family (children) was formed.

Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you;…..

    (Jeremiah 3:14)

Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

    (Revelation 19:7)

(Author’s Note: The Lamb is Jesus; the wife is all born again believers-The Body of Christ)

Without the male/female relationship, there would be no family (children). However, those who are in marital relationships must not lose their focus; there is no marriage in heaven; otherwise, one would be subject to a partner rather than Christ. Marriage is temporal, it is of this world.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

    (Matthew 22:30)

But this I say, brethren, the time is short; it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none.

    (1 Corinthians 7:29)

God requires faithfulness in the earthly and spiritual marriage; however, his chosen (The Israelites), were unfaithful to him.

Thou has also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and has increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.

    (Ezekiel 16:26)

The utopia (perfect) marriage is not here on earth. The utopia marriage is the relationship between Jesus and The Body of Christ (all born again believers-individually and collectively) and God has not left anyone out; all who desire a marriage partner have been invited to his marriage ceremony and can be married to him. Marriage to Jesus is the only lasting marriage-the everlasting marriage. None of us are alone in this life. God has placed all who belong to him in the universal (all born again believers worldwide) family of God. That is the eternal family. Many of our earthly family members will not be with us in the end.

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him.

    (Psalms 49:7)

Those who are lonely or alone can seek a body of born again believers to fellowship with (a church family) and this is the home away from home until we (the Body of Christ) individually and collectively arrive home (heaven). The single and the lonely can always unite with a local church family.

While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? And who are my brethren? And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

    (Matthew 12:46, 48-50)

There are no guarantees in life. There is no guarantee that parents will live to see their children to adulthood; that a husband or wife will always be there for each other; or that a child will be raised by both parents. Nevertheless, God’s word tells us that regardless of our state, we must learn to be content (to accept life just as it is).

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

    (1 Timothy 6:6)

The earthly family will always have family problems according to the word of God. The enemy will always be in the home or family. The word of God divides. If the earthly family could be brought together in harmony, God’s word is not true; however, we know that his word is true.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes
