    Food

Better than any Cajun cuisine in the South,

Far more delicious that those of the Orientals,

Too, greatly beneficial than all of the Mediterraneans!

Yes, this cuisine surpasses them all.

This dish is deeply desirable day after day.

For some, this plate is disregarded,

And for others, they just throw it away.

But as for me, I take advantage.

For my sake, to stay alive, I run to it.

In school my peers teased me because

I had an addiction, and a yearning.

Even in the cafeteria I had the craving.

Today, no one will deprive me of it.

    Seek it always I must.

Move out of my way! I will continue to go for it-

    Knowledge!

    Beauty

In order to find out what kind of person

you are, you have to look at

    yourself inside and out.

So if you look at yourself in the mirror

    and say, I am beautiful,

    that means that you are

    confident in yourself.

But if you have a negative attitude and

you say, Oh, I’m different-no one likes me,

you won’t get that far in life.

Now let me tell you about me....

Yeah, being in a wheelchair is very hard, but fair.

It can be very depressing too.

But I don’t let it bother me.

Cuz I know I’ll still be able to make it in life.

Let me tell y’all one thing.

I have beauty inside and out.

**This poem is written if you think you have Beauty that makes you beautiful.

    Written by Crystal Thibodeaux,

    Senior at Comeaux High School,

    Lafayette, La.

    My Mother

Of all the women that are on the Earth,

There is one who I hold dear to my heart.

Because of her I had my beginnings.

She is the one who really cared for me.

When I took my first steps, she helped me walk.

When I said my first words, she helped me talk.

I don’t know what I would do without her,

For she is my queen and my fair lady,

And she is the one who knows me best

Because I am the spitting image of her.

Who was there when I needed comforting?

And who was there when I need a friend?

I can say that there is no one other

Than my beautiful, sweet, loving mother.

    Music

Life is SO boring without you!

To be human is to be moved by both

    Your power, and also your grace;

You have perfect balance of the two.

All of your flats and sharps and

Thirds and fourths and trebles and bases

Create something that is O so beautiful

    To the ears.

Speaking of which, we were all given

Two ears and one mouth-so why would I

Even I, make melody with my mouth rather

Than listen to the tones with my receptacles?

We hear you in nature, we listen to you.

    Whenever Man assembles melodies,

You are desired, for you can dictate

And set the mood for almost any and

Every situation and circumstance, even Death.

But not even Death can overpower you,

For there is always sound and rhythm here

In this universe, even on this Earth

    Where you are deeply appreciated.

    Lucy

You’re one of my best friends I’ve ever known.

You’ve showed me how to really love and care.

You’ve been an inspiration in my life.

If I had a chance to do it again,

I simply would not change a thing.

You’ve given me love, joy, and peace as well.

Even when we run and play together,

For you have taught me how to have friendship.

While you’re resting and sitting on my lap,

I think about the time when you won’t be here,

    Although melancholic and heartbreaking

    And painful and devastating.

Nonetheless, we surely will take it slow

And enjoy the time we have together.

    Read

It will help you to succeed.

Something that you will really need.

    Not because of untimely greed,

But because it is a dandy deed.

You’ll gain the power of a steed,

Helping you to take the lead.

    A healthy addition, unlike weed,

For your mind it is an awesome feed.

Take these words, have them heed,

Protect yourself, so you won’t bleed.

Place yourself among a lofty creed,

Then you will find yourself degreed.

Transform yourself to a different breed,

Always remembering to read, read, read!

    Tomorrow

    The next day is unknown

    And I am anxious

    To see what will be

    In the near future.

    Will there be good things,

Or will there be bad things?

    Who knows what will be

    Of the current present

    As the present slowly

    Becomes the future

    And the future then

    Becomes the present.
