NOTES
FOREWORD
God made man and woman in His image as His special creation. But the image of God in mankind was marred when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden. Since that time, the human family, made as an indivisible unity of body, mind, and spirit continues to share this fallen nature and all its consequences. Because of sin, achieving the fullness of wellness and well-being have been seriously undermined.
Jesus Christ came to redeem fallen humanity and restore the image of God in us. He used parable teachings extensively as an effective method in reaching humanity with the gospel. All the parables have rich truth that are not evident on the surface, but are revealed only as one digs below the surface.
Wellness in the Parables through Meditative Poems and Prose goes beneath the surface and provides for us the amazing truths found in the parables. It is written to help us grow in understanding the challenges of our existence here on earth. Trevor Moorley has done an amazing job of compiling the parables in meditative poems and prose, presenting them in a way that is concise, practical, and useful.
This book is not only a valuable resource item for both clergy and layman, but also for all of the human family as it presents a blueprint of principles of which to live by as we face the everyday struggles of life.

PREFACE
I have discovered that deep within the parables of Christ are experiences that are designed to make us whole. Men and women are crying out to be made well again in this world of depravity and selfishness. These parables provide a wellspring of wellness principles and may just be the answers to many of our wellness concerns. Every parable in its own way reflects some measure of wellness toward experiencing abundant life here, and in the hereafter. The way we relate to God, to our selves, and to others impacts significantly on personal wellness. I like how Travis, J. W., & Ryan, R. S. (2004) in their Wellness Workbook consider wellness as the integration of body, mind, and spirit–the appreciation that everything you do, and think, and feel, and believe has an impact on your state of health and the health of the world.
Authorities on wellness consider it an active process through which we can become aware of and engage in choices that will accentuate a more successful existence. Such a model will incorporate six basic dimensions–social, occupational, spiritual, physical, intellectual, and emotional. For maximum benefit, each area should be integrated with the others, and thus, we need to consider wellness in each area to be holistically well.
A careful study of the parables will impact our attitudes positively and shift our focus from hopelessness to meaningful living. I have reconstituted these parables into meditative poems and encouraging prose. Remember that they are earthly stories with heavenly meanings and we should be careful not to misinterpret their messages. For example, the parable of the Ten Virgins was not intended to mean that in the Church fifty percent of the members are wise and fifty percent
