Victims Anonymous: Do Not Allow Your Past to Victimize You
()
About this ebook
Many people feel so overwhelmed by their past that they become victims of that past. This is no way to live. In Victims Anonymous: Do Not Allow your Past to Victimize You, author Angela Hester provides advice and encouragement for coming to terms with the past in order to live fully in the present and succeed in the future.
Drawing from her own life experiences, Hester delivers empowerment to make amends with the past in order to realize the success you can have in the future by transforming the negative you into a positive and successful, new you. Victims Anonymous: Do Not Allow your Past to Victimize You eliminates the fictitious factors that lead you to believe achieving something great is unthinkable because of where you have come from and what you have been through.
Through the use of reflective exercises and anecdotes from others, Victims Anonymous: Do Not Allow your Past to Victimize You instills trust that if you work hard to overcome obstacles, whether in the past or present, that achievement is remarkable. The past is labeled just that, because it describes events that have already taken place. The beauty of your future is that you can dictate the outcome if you do not let your past rule your future.

Preface
My book is about the struggles that people have when they try to overcome pain or abandonment they have experienced in the past. Many people feel so overwhelmed by their past that they become victims of that past. This is no way to live. I want to help eliminate the fictitious factors that lead many of you to believe that you achieving something great is unthinkable, just because of where you have come from and what you have been through. Instead, I want you to trust the fact that if you work hard to overcome obstacles, whether they are in the past or present, that achievement alone should be deemed remarkable.
You do not want your past to become your future. The past is labeled just that, because it describes events that have already taken place. The beauty of your future is that you can dictate that outcome, if you do not let your past rule your future.
Introduction
In the Beginning
When it all started for me, it seemed like a vicious and endless cycle of feeling victimized. I blamed everyone for my situation—my mother and the positions she continuously put me in, my siblings, my surroundings, I could go on forever if you’d let me. I went on to have a life of great disasters and pointless decisions. Do you hear the violins playing yet? Before the age of sixteen, I had bounced around from house to house with my young son, and I quickly realized that this was not the life that I wanted to live. I wanted to teach my son—better yet, show my son—that there were better things in life than to live as if life was pointless. I wanted to live life as if there was meaning being created behind our last name.
Purpose
Have you ever woken up and felt as though there is more meaning to your life than you thought? This is the way that I felt when I woke up one morning. I awakened only to feel that there was more to my life than I had realized. I recognized that the pain of the trials and tribulations that I had been living with was sticking by my side like a bad boyfriend on payday. I felt as though my life was supposed to turn out like this so that I could be the voice that can tell hundreds, maybe even thousands, of people who have endured past situations or circumstances that they may not be able to move on from, that there really is light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes when we beautifully talented people realize that we are becoming mothers, fathers, single parents, maneuvering into careers, going for that additional education, and so forth, we tend to feel overwhelmed. We tend to feel as though we don’t deserve to be divine, interesting, and brilliant because of our past; however, today it is the people who have gone through the most traumatic experiences that are viewed as being profoundly uplifting and powerful. Influential people such as Tina Turner, Oprah Winfrey, Robin Givens, Bill Cosby, and Tyler Perry, just to name a few. It is time for you to realize the success you can have in the future by transforming the negative you into a positive and successful, new you. Do not let your past hinder your future!
Chapter 1
Past / Future
Reflection (A)
I remember listening to Brian McKnight’s One Last Cry,
wondering when I would be down to my last cry. When would all the depressing, draining, and gut-wrenching, past and present reminiscences go away? When would I rid my body of the tears that stream down my face because of all the sadness? I wanted so badly to have my one last cry, because of my inability to see that God has something great in store for me. I could replace those tears of sadness and welcome all the tears of joy that my future could hold.
You do not want your past to become your future. The past is labeled just that, because it describes events that have already taken place. The beauty of your future is that you can dictate that outcome, if you do not let your past rule your future. Look at me as an example. I have definitely come from a past filled with a tremendous amount of pain and a tremendous amount of abandonment. Moreover, when
