    A WORD OF WARNING

    Dear reader,

This is a very stimulating book to read. It contains material that is harmful to Satan and his demons. And for that reason, Satan and demons will do everything in their power to stop you from reading it. They may try to intimidate you with fear, confusion and doubt. They may even try to distract your attention through unnecessary callers with trivial reasons for calling. The material itself may turn out to be the hardest you have ever tried to understand. It is therefore, a good thing to pray for understanding and protection every time you start reading it. Here is a prayer for you.

Father in heaven, I ask you in the name of Jesus Christ to protect every person whos reading this book from all the attacks, interferences and distractions of Satan and his demons. Father, I ask you in the name of Jesus Christ, enlighten, and give this person grace to understand this material. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This book has benefited from the insights of many scholars who have influenced my life and my thinking over the past years: Pastor Nelson Bwalya, Rev. Linda Faber, Elder Peter Kapenda and Apostle Mukondo Wachikanga Lungu.

Thanks to Bristol Christian Fellowship, Riverside Church, Linden Church and West Cross Community Church for the moral and financial support they render to the church in Zambia. Without it I would have had less time for this book.

Thanks also to the UK teams led by Dave Day, Chris Stone, John Tancock and Elliott Pollarch that occasionally have come to work with the church.

Not forgetting the Bible school in New Life Christian Centre, Croydon, UK, for its faithful training of hundreds of Christian workers from many parts of the world, of which I am one. Thanks John Edwards and the New Life Christian Centre leadership.

Arthur Hibbert needs to be mentioned for the part he played in the Bible school at New Life. He is now leading Lifespring Fellowship in Croydon; God bless you.

I am also deeply thankful to the leadership of The Firebaptised Church of Zambia: the late Rev. Harold Mwenge, Bishop Gregory Chetani, Rev. Cisya Sikalumbi, Rev. Leonard Mapulanga, Rev. Simon Kakoma, Rev. Ackim Nyendwa, Rev. John Mulongo, Rev. Peter Muma, Rev. Steven Mulenga, Mrs Janet Mwenge and others for the warm friendly relationship that we share.

However it is to the following people that I feel most indebted: to Kennedy Chikwanda, Joseph Zulu and Pastor Makanda who were willing to share their life testimonies in our church from which I have drawn some of the examples given in this book. To my sister Grace

Julia Limba for typing the first draft of this book. To my brother-in-law Ivor Masafwa who first put the work on his computer and taught me basic IT lessons and allowed me to take his computer and use it in my home. To Irene Lakhani for spending her precious time editing this work. To Dr. Femi Olowo principal of South London Christian College who read the book in one sitting and gave me valuable advice. To Anthony Vaughan who was always there to encourage me and shared many insights on spiritual warfare.

I have also acknowledgements of another sort to make. When casting out demons in a church setting you rely on the teamwork of individuals who are willing to sacrifice their time to help those who are oppressed by demons. However, four groups stand out from the rest, and I cannot pass on without mentioning them: The Anti-Satanic Team of Michael Nsofwa, Kennedy Nkandu, Sylvester Mulenga, Dickson Chimba, Martin Phiri, Didier Mwewa and John Katebe; Evangelists and worship leaders Charles Kujila, Thomas Kapumpe, Kennedy Nkandu, Martin Malienge and Michael Nsofwa who always spared time to help the demon-oppressed every evening service. My wife Grace Kamanga worked tirelessly in leading women in the church to disciple new members and especially those who were set free from demons; the Lubuto Fellowship for the tears and joys we shared together for the twenty years that I was your Pastor. Last but not least I am indebted to my daughter Gift, and my sons Jedidiah and Barnabas for their belief in me.

Whenever you list precious people, it is most likely that you may leave out someone special. However, I want to thank the Lord for all of you, for you have been good to me. God bless you.

    PREFACE

This book is about demons and how to cast them out. If you have the conception that spirit and demon activity is a myth, then this book is not for you. If you have no curiosity about supernatural subjects, which some people regard as controversial, you might as well stop now because it will definitely not interest you.

For the past twenty-five years in churches, seminars, Bible studies and in people’s homes I have been giving instructions on how to defeat and cast out demons. In the course of these years as a minister of the Gospel, I have discovered that deliverance from demons is badly needed by people inside the church as well as those outside the church. I have also discovered that the interest in this subject is overwhelming. People who are confronted by the powers of darkness, and demons in particular, are eager to learn what God has to say about them in His book, the Bible.

    Part One

    WHAT ARE DEMONS?

    DEMONS ARE SPIRIT BEINGS

D emons are spirit beings. They are not just energies, forces or entities some people talk about. They are living beings. They are spiritual beings that are evil and destructive. Sometimes they are called evil spirits, unclean spirits, wicked spirits, familiar spirits or devils.1 They live and operate in a plane or realm different from ours called the spirit world. They do not have physical bodies. They are not flesh and blood. What Jesus said to his disciples when He rose from the dead and appeared to them as they ate teaches that spirits do not have flesh and blood like human beings.

And while they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst. But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit. And He said to them, Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." [And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.] And while they still could not believe it for joy and were marveling, He said to them, Have you anything here to eat? And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; and He took it and ate it before them." Luke 24:36-43.

Because demons do not have physical bodies like us it is not easy for them to influence our physical world. To do it, they need a physical body. That’s why they wander about seeking a body to enter and carry out their evil deeds. Their choicest body is that of a human being because of its broadest and most sophisticated means of expression. If they are unable to find a human body they sometimes resort to an animal. They go to these lengths just to gain access to mankind so that they can destroy a person.

It is sad to notice that in most instances demons are not short of human bodies to use. Because there is always someone out there who is willing to be used as a medium. There is someone else who is looking for a spirit guide or an ascended master to enlighten them.2 All these are prey to demons.

And because demons live in a spirit world, they have a spiritual body that they use to relate and interact with in the spirit world. A spiritual body is made of heavenly material, which is superior to our physical world and bodies, and is suitable for heavenly dwelling only. That is why they seek a physical body when they want to operate in our physical world.

On the other hand, you and I are human beings; we have a physical body with which we interact and relate to one another and the rest of the surroundings in our physical world. We cannot see the spirit world because we are in a physical world. Our physical body is made from earthly material designed to fit our life on earth only.

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a

YOU CAN DEFEAT DEMONS living soul." Genesis 2:7 (KJV).

"In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return." Genesis 3:19.

Though we cannot see the spirit world, it is very active and it does affect us and our world greatly. A human being can easily be affected by the spirit world, this is because he has a part in him that is spirit. We shall see this in Chapter 23. Now let us first look at the personalities of demons.

    THE PERSONALITY OF DEMONS

Demons are persons. Like you and I, they have all the characteristics of a person, they have will, mind, emotions and expressions. Let us look briefly at some of these characteristics.

    •   Expressions

When demons enter a person they express themselves through the faculties of that body. They speak, cry and laugh using the mouth and tongue of the body they have entered. They can feel and touch things with it. They can use the human body in the same way we do and even to greater effect, as we will see in the following chapters.

    •   Will

Demons have a will, they have power to choose and do what they want. They demonstrated a will by begging Jesus not to send them into the abyss but to be sent into the pigs.

So all the demons begged Him; saying, send us to the swine, that we may enter them. Mark 5:12.

    •   Mind

Demons have a mind; they think, plan and make decisions. When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ Luke 11:24. In the above verse we see a demon that had left a person, reasoning and making a decision to go back into the body he left. This shows without doubt that demons think, reason and make decisions just like you and me. They have a mind.

    • Emotions

Demons have emotions such as fear, hate, anger, etc. The brother of Jesus, James, in his epistle, speaks of their fear. "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble!" James 2:19.

They have hatred and can kill people. They tried to kill a boy who had a spirit of epilepsy in Mark 9:22.

And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us. Mark 9:22.

Hatred is one of the greatest emotions of demons towards mankind. They are prepared to do anything that would harm a human being. Jesus cast them out when He walked the streets of Palestine. He has given us the same power to cast them out too. We shall gradually learn more about this power as we proceed further in the book. Meanwhile let us learn more about their characteristics in the following three chapters before discussing their origin.

    DEMONS HAVE INTELLIGENCE

One of the remarkable characteristics of demons is their intelligence. They have supernatural knowledge and they use it for their evil purposes. The word ‘demon’ is derived from the Greek word ‘daimon’, meaning ‘deity’ or ‘genius’.

The reason why demons have more knowledge is because they are spirit beings. They see things with spiritual eyes and hear things with spiritual ears, things that we cannot see and hear with our human eyes and ears. This has given them an advantage in knowledge over human beings.

The other reason why they have more knowledge than us is that they have existed since long before we were created. They are older than mankind. This is one reason why men in all ages have attempted to gain knowledge from them. The skills of magic, sorcery, witchcraft, fortune telling and other occult practices were handed down from demons.

They are able to speak in many different languages that they have learned over the thousands of years they have lived and mingled with mankind on earth. They reveal this and other abilities in the people they enter and indwell. Doreen, an ex-Queen of Black Witches, mentions in her testimony how demons enabled her to understand and speak various tongues (language) that she had never learned.3

Here are some examples of the way demons have shown their knowledge in revealing something that seemed hidden from human knowledge:

Brother MS was an elder in our church. Before he became a Christian, he and his friend were taken to a witchdoctor. The relative who took them wanted to know which of the two had stolen his money. The witchdoctor did his witch-act on them and pointed at the friend of brother MS and said he was the thief. The witchdoctor explained in detail how the money was stolen as if he was watching the thief. He even revealed where the thief had hidden the money. When they went to the place where the thief had hidden the money, they found it just as the witchdoctor said they would. Now, how did the witchdoctor know? He got the information from the demons that lived in him. In the occult world this ability of seeing events in the past or future, or what is happening in another place is called clairvoyance. It is a demonic act. It is initiated by demons.

Brother J was a witchdoctor before he became a Christian. He told me that the demons that used him
