    We have chosen to dedicate this book to our mother and grandmother. June 23, 1886 began our legacy of faith with the birth of Hattie Hannorah Savage Rutledge. She was the third of eight children and weighed only three pounds at birth. She began and lived her life with a determination, a will to persevere, and a strong faith in God.

    Her life was not one of ease. Living in a generation that had no electricity, no running water, no indoor plumbing, she rose early to get the household ready for the day. Farming was their livelihood and she often picked cotton, prepared meals for the farm hands, raised a garden, sewed clothing for her two daughters and herself. In spite of difficult times, she never wavered in her faith.

    Nora as she was called was an inspiration to her family and friends in her generation. She passed this legacy of faith to two more generations, a daughter and a granddaughter. Our desire is to impart this legacy of faith to the next generation.
