While the horoscope can illustrate the nature of the potential harmony between people or between a person and a place and time, it cannot tell whether a person will choose good or evil.

    Local Astronomy

Orbit of the Earth around the Sun

As the Earth revolves around the Sun it is tilted in a direction that changes only in relation to the Sun. Though the Earth’s inclination to the Sun varies with the Earth’s movement around it, the Earth’s inclination is fixed in relation to space. (Figure 1) At the June solstice, this varying inclination causes a region of space known as the Tropic of Cancer to be the closest part of the Earth’s surface to the Sun. As the year progresses towards the December solstice, the Southern hemisphere receives increasing exposure to the Sim because it is projected towards the Sun by the effect of the Earth’s orbit upon the Earth’s fixed tilt. Exactly half way between each solstice is each equinox. At these times, observers all over the Northern and the Southern hemisphere will experience the centre of the Sun above the horizon for half of the day. This happens when the plane of the Earth’s tilt is inclined across the orbit of the Earth around the Sun. As either solstice passes and an equinox approaches, the point at which the Sim appears overhead at midday shifts from the edges of the tropical zone towards the equator.

The 23.5° (degree) inclination of the Earth defines the maximum degree of declination and it determines the parameters of the Arctic, Antarctic and Tropical zones. Declination is the measure of the angle between the direction of the Sun and the plane of the
