About this ebook

The contributors to this little volume are or were remarkable people whom the Lord had touched in one way or another, manifesting His divine love and miraculous power. It was the editor's own unexpected experience of the Lord's power and presence that, in 1984, changed his life and caused him to forsake his academic career in South Africa and move to the United Kingdom where he could obey his mission to write. It was also that remarkable experience of His power that made him seek out others whom the Lord had touched while he was still living in South Africa. This little book is the result of that quest.

    Foreword

When my mother, who was a strong Christian believer, died in 1987, Reverend Raymond Brown told me ‘heaven had become more precious’ for me. Indeed, since then heaven has considerably increased in value, four of the contributors in this book of testimonies having gone on to join the heavenly throng—Le Roche Furstenburg, Flo Pretorius, Professor Mokgokong, and the Reverend Raymond Brown himself.

The memory of all the contributors to this little volume is precious to me. They are—or were—remarkable people whom the Lord had touched in one way or another, manifesting His divine love and miraculous power. It was my own unexpected experience of the Lord’s power and presence that, in 1984, changed my life and caused me to forsake my academic career in South Africa and move to the United Kingdom where I could obey His injunction to write. It was also that remarkable experience of His power that made me seek out others whom the Lord had touched—while I was still living in South Africa. This little book is the result of that quest.

My own testimony (‘Tapping into the Spirit’) has been reprinted here from my longer inspirational work Have Anything You Really Really Want: A Christian Testimony—also published by Writers Club Press.

I trust these testimonies will be a blessing and inspiration for many.

    Preface

The Bible is the testimony to the power of God’s love. To appreciate these testimonies one needs to see them in context and to sense the atmosphere of the occasion. Take for example John’s gospel, chapter 9, and the story of the healing of the man born blind. The power of Christ’s love and touch on his eyes and life strengthened him to give this testimony, One thing I do know—I was blind, but now I see! Yes, his testimony upset the religious establishment but brought joy to the Lord and his angels.

A testimony is worth repeating. This is borne out by the Holy Spirit recording the testimony of Paul on three occasions in the book of Acts. Paul himself on numerous occasions in his letters gives his testimony—for example, Galatians Chapter 1, vs 11-23.

In a preface of a book of this nature, it is my honour to give testimony to the creative literacy gifts of Professor Charles Muller. Charles and his wife Joanne were a tower of strength to me while I was the pastor of the Pietersburg Baptist church during the years 1983—1987. It is my joy and privilege to write the preface for someone whose desire is to finish the work the Lord has given him to do. This work is the book that is now in your hands.

In reading the range of testimonies that have brought praise and peace to the testifier, you the reader will again be exposed to the relevancy and imminence of God. We may not always relate to people’s experiences, but the fruit must be an obedient and Christ-like spirit. This is what Professor Muller has seen in the lives of the people who testify in this book. Professor Muller’s own testimony completes a set of testimonies to give you much encouragement in the fact that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13:8). Whether we are delivered out of our trial or kept through it, Praise belongs to our God for He is our Peace.

    A Real And Present Help

    Le Roche Furstenburg

Le Roche Furstenburg is a robust man in his early seventies. His pepper-grey eyebrows, his shock of grey hair, give him an immense sense of dignity. His Christian name, ‘Le Roche,’ suggesting a rock, is appropriate, for he certainly is a man of large and sturdy stature.

He came up to me after the service one morning at the Tzaneen Baptist Church. I had told the congregation about the way the Lord had intervened in my life. At the end I invited others to tell me of their experiences with the Lord. I want to collect testimonies and put them in a book, I said. This way many others can hear how the Lord is real to us today. Just like he was real to the Apostle Paul on the road to Damascus.

Le Roche put his hand on my shoulder and fixed me with his steady blue eyes. Brother, he said, I want to tell you about two of the most breathtaking experiences I had with the Lord.

I listened to the resonant warmth of his voice. He said: Both experiences happened within a few days of each other. It was ten years ago. He smiled as he shook his
