The Right Path Taken: An Anthology of Poems Depicting the Dimensions of Love
()
About this ebook
In this book, The Right Path Taken, poetry chronicles the rewards of change. It illustrates the various dimensions of love and how walking on the side of the Heavenly Father can provide the glories of remuneration that are not available on the road that is inherent with evil.
Terry Lawrence
Terry Lawrence began his journey of life in northeastern Ohio in a charming small town along the Ohio River. After his graduation from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio and armed with several degrees in business, his 40-year career expedition transported him to Washington, D.C., Baltimore MD, St. Petersburg FL, Los Angeles CA, Las Vegas NV, and Athens, Greece. It wasn’t until 2008 Terry experienced an explosion of his creative prowess when he launched his own poetry website and published his first book, Journey of Life. This book, The Right Path Taken, is his second in a planned series that archives the various dimensions of love relative to his own personal relationship with God, friends, and especially his own life partner. Because of the love he discovered, with the intervention of God, coupled with his new surroundings living in Vancouver WA, nestled in the beautiful and awe-inspiring Northwest, Terry encountered a life-changing transformation where he was able to take the right path of life. A lighted path that radiated an appreciation for God, life, character, righteousness, and, more than anything else, love.

The Right Path Taken
Many steps I walked the road that seemed to be mistaken
feeling lost most my life, stranded and forsaken
until a vision confronted me, and deep my soul awaken
and led me by along the road to the right path taken.
Before that time, I didn’t think of all the gaffes I made
even those intended and friends that I betrayed
I merely walked without regard, as if a masquerade
pretending to be someone else, even when I prayed.
I couldn’t look, reflect back, of where that I had been
embarrassment mixed with guilt for each my every sin
led astray along the road by wickedness within
a dormant virtue of my heart failing to begin.
‘til that night, when seeing her and the things she said
reprehensible as I was, though my soul she read
what followed was a rocky road, and many tears we shed,
regardless of mindless plans, I fell in love instead.
A pinnacle came about for what we had attained
though turbulence was prevalent and seemed to ever reign
and even a connection stretched and ‘er so ever strained
kept our love alive and endless, for what our hearts contained.
Fortitude and her strength from Above our Lord
opened wide my heart and soul, a world I’d not explored
and learning that His Gift of Love was my just reward,
and hers too, as she walked and guided me toward…
the right path taken.

There once was a girl, so sweet and cute, whose character was, beyond repute
with skin so soft, and graceful style, possessed the most, a darling smile
admired, adored, her mother’s love, it’s her mom, she still dreams of
still remembers, her comforting touch, always thankful, and loving her much.
Life for this girl, so rocky the road, as evil attempted, her spirit corrode,
but Heavenly Father, Who not to deter, carefully watched, and watched over her
gave her more good, than any of bad, gave her more laughs, than times that were sad
gave her four children, better than others, gave her the traits, the best of all mothers.
He watched, as she walked, a road full of strife, proud that He is, her journey of life
for no matter the trials, she would endure, honesty, truth, her spirit so pure
knowing that she, was treated, not right, provided her love, December 1 night
a connection and bond, so eerily so, hearts to aflame, and always aglow.
So, here this girl, little and smart
beautiful mind, and beautiful heart
blessed by Him, to see things through
you know this little… girl… is you!

My dad and mom had taken me, to the park one day,
there were many cars to see, and much to do and play;
and to explore, all about, the sun, the trees and grass,
happy heart, without a doubt, and stuff I would admass.
I wondered at the birds of red, flying to and fro,
listened to, what people said, and didn’t even know
the words they spoke, so envy so, but seemed to all agree,
as they looked, and seemed to show, attention, just for me.
I felt the warmth, of sun above, as I ran about,
racing frogs and always won, and joy that I would shout.
I marveled at the flowers touch, with beauty oh so rare,
and so amazed of colors much, surrounding everywhere.
I ran and ran, all day long, with beauty so inspired,
Felt connected, felt belong, but then become so tired.
That was it, the day was done, I thought about the what,
What it was, to have such fun, and grass to meet my butt!

A Walk Along the Beach
I walked along the beach that night, my age of ninety-seven,
felt the waters cool my feet, a gentle breeze from heaven.
Seemed a time for me to look, reflect back on my life,
especially now, the day before, I lost my loving wife.
My dearest friend and confidante, for nearly forty years.
all the memories that we shared, including all the tears.
I felt just then, a tear emit, and glide down on my cheek,
followed by another one, that used the moistened streak.
Overcome with emptiness, and love so lost that day,
overwhelmed and lonely, beyond the loss dismay.
I stood so numb, upon the sand, and felt my shredding heart,
I saw her face among the stars, and grieved of her depart.
Steps were hard, to take that night, lamenting of my loss,
grasped the chain around my neck, and held so tight, the cross.
Father, why?
, I asked of him, Why my Love is gone?
How do I live each day? How do I go on?
I walked alone that moonlit night, without her loving hand,
walked so long, and looking back, my footprints in the sand.
Agony, filled my heart, and tears to ne’er control,
I was but, just mere a man, and with a saddened soul.
Flowing tears that couldn’t stop, I felt my heart did break,
I looked to Him, again Above, and asked my soul to take.
Without her, in my life, there was no life at all,
for painful was, and always will, our memories to recall.
I found each step, motionless, or so I felt, it seems,
missing her so very much, the woman, of my dreams.
I asked again, of my God, to take my life that night,
Let me be with my Love, let me see the Light.
But as He works, within His ways, perhaps too great, the task,
perhaps it wasn’t time to leave, for what I had to ask.
I felt a breeze, warming me, and gentle touch, my hand.
And looking back, of where I walked, no footprints in the sand.

The little bird had traveled far, its wings were torn and bent
affixed its eyes upon a star, and vested time, she spent
always been a helpful bird, as many birds did know
but broken chirps, as had she heard, were hurting much and so.
Nurtured those, all from the nest, to grow, to learn, to fly
gave her all, gave her best, to now, to wonder why
why some babies took a route, and flew into the dark
despite their beauty, minds astute, a place so bleak and stark.
Her little eyes, looked up Above, her beak, so downward grim
asked for strength, and for love, that only comes from Him
flew to here and to there, a mother’s love, that would
give the help, and loving care, as only, as it should.
Little tears, from little eyes, so swollen, in such pain
searching for, the
